MsPigeon Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 Do any of you belong to clubs that use the UPR point system?? What do you think of it? Pros and Cons? Does it seem to favor any? Thanks for the info Carol
PIGEON_MAN Posted December 15, 2006 Report Posted December 15, 2006 Think this could be a system used in the states could you explain it to us Carol.
MsPigeon Posted December 19, 2006 Author Report Posted December 19, 2006 Thats funny Tony because the American Racing Pigeon Union describes it as " a system that provides percentile scores similar to European scoring systems." This is their description. "... scoring is accomplished useing Universal Performance Rating (UPR) system. Percentiles for each race performance are calculated by dividing the fancier's position in the race by the total number of birds entered in the race and converting the results into a percentage." There is also a team score and nominated birds to earn extra points. But I don't fully understand it all as yet. It is built into the AU software WinSpeed that we use for our race results. Even if we don't use the system at club or Concourse level the AU uses it at the National level for national awards.
PIGEON_MAN Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 I,m pretty certain Carol that this sort of system is not used at all in the U.K.I think i have read of a simular idea in Belgium or Holland, perhaps Stuart may be able to help you more.
Tony C Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Carol is it along the same lines as this......... A formula is used to give the birds a coefficient number, this is formulated by multiplying the position taken in the race by 1,000, this is then divided by the number of birds competing in the race. Example; 3rd place in a race with 3978 birds competing is worked out as follows; 3 X 1,000 = 3,000 , divided by the birds in the race 3,978 = .754. This pigeon would have a coefficient of .754 for that one race. Each coefficient for each qualifying race is then added together to give an overall figure. (The above was found on a BHW artical ) http://www.pigeonracing.com/olympiad.htm
MsPigeon Posted December 20, 2006 Author Report Posted December 20, 2006 Thanks Tony, So do you have an opinion of the system? Carol
Tony C Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 I think its a fair way to classify a pigeons performance over a series of races.
