Guest ben Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Hi, Just a thought on a wet windy winters day,What would be the chances of myself, screwing a small rabbit hutch on 1 of our back walls, obtaining a pair of birds from another fancier, perhaps on this forum, breaking them to the hutch, and seeing if they could be prepared for the NFC PAU,or Tarbes blue ribbon,570 miles come the middle of June. I don`t think it would really matter if they were distance stuff,as long as they had no major physical flaws, even out and out sprinters would make it more intresting. thoughts?
Wiley Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 it defaintly is possible ben. I knew a guy about 4 years ago who raced to a block of flats balcony and all he had was like 2 rabbit hutches but slightly bigger in height. He didnt race many but he could race a good bird.
Guest Paulo Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 keith mott seems to do alright with it
Guest Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Ben, depends what you mean by sprinters, if they are the linford christie variety no chance, once they hit 200 their gone, if however they are those special birds that can do 50 -550 then yes, I have no doubt you can do it.
pigeonscout Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I dont think you could break the kind of birds that will race from 570 miles.
snowy Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 nice to do ben, jimmy white broke a few winning old birds to his loft
schouwman71 Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 if the birds are a pair i think its quit possible, but 500 plus you need the right tackle.
jimmy white Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 broke a pigeon after flying the season with bill pentland, the pigeon flew dorchestor for him 3 weeks later it scored in national sartilly for me, with one training toss from the north from alister mcuddins at freuchie, which it dropped at me
Roland Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 Nationals have been one like that ... and even one when the birds very first race won a National, and how many can say that! From rabbit hutches of course lots, and lots. Was a flyer from Derby that had 8, each upon a pole in a circle. He won Nationals and just about everything else.
pigeonscout Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 If you are only trying two why not fly them into your house they fly them into their flats in Taiwan and they are kept like any other cage bird.
