blackjack Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I just thought i would ask i would and have though many fanciers i have spoken to would not your view all.
velo99 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I have rollers, I would rather have them than racers. Less travel, and the judge comes to my house.
schyphos Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Yes,i really enjoy the breeding side of keeping pigeons and would probably keep some stock and breed pigeons for others to race.I think i would still get a lot of enjoyment from that, if i did not race myself.
Chatrace Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Yes, I have a team of Whites and need the extra 30 a year for living costs
Beanz Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I would not keep racers but would probably keep a few fancy pigeons
stevebelbin Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 The problem with keeping a few is the temptation to race them again. Everyone I know who has packed in and kept a few has ended up starting up again (including myself LOL). But the ones who have got rid completely have said its the best thing they ever did, time wise etc. There just too damn addictive ;D ;D
RoryTheRed Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Yup, though i would go for colours rather than the standard Blue and Chequer.
Guest Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 ;D i kept pigeons before i started racing , white garden birds in a dovecote ,had a couple of racers settle in and the rest is history .......... andy 8)
Wiley Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 yea i think i would even if i bred them for the breeder and buyer races but not buy any back just put them in the races and hopefully someone else would do well with them!
robinthfc Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I stopped racing for nearly 10 years but still kept them, back in racing now though....my mate stopped racing in 1995 but still has a loft full.
gangster Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 i tried i got showbirds owls/rollers ect even though they are ok i found them easy prey for the cats. got wiped out so i dont know why but i got a few back now im back as bad as before just missed the buzz............
Wiley Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 yes very direct no mucking about there lol
Guest WINGS 04 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 no i would not keep them as i think it is all about racing that is where i get the buzz and that is what i look forward over the closed season planing the races you are going for and what birds are going to what race
Guest Paulo Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 very direct no mucking about there lol just like keeping the pigeons its the sane with any animal you have you get a bond to them. Racing is good but even so surely having the birds around in the garden and sitting down on the lawn on a sunny day while the birds have a bath and just watching them is worth keeping them for alone
gangster Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 no i wouldnt keep em just to look at on a sunny day ,id keep fancy s for that racers are for racing..................

Wiley Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I will always keep some sort of pigeon.I am in the process of trying to get some Birmingham rollers but must be white with red/black wings. Cheers Ian recently seen a dvd with them on, what amazing flyers they look like they had all been shot at once with that suicide roll they seem to do!how low to the ground do they get and what causes them to do the rolling?
Guest shadow Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 No Have just sold and given away all my birds, and at the moment have no plans to start again when we move house in 3 wks time

gangster Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 id like to keep some turkish dewlaps believe me you need to se these in action flown in 3s they go sky high then you can use a white fantail to call them down they dive straight down they are that fast you can see the dust off the wings and stop above loft and straight in i did not believe it until i saw it...........................
THE FIFER Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 i thinkif pigeon racing came to an end which it will soon, the fancy pigeon clubs would boom.
