You could say my first race was not fair as I started off in a partnership. The first race that i went in as partner we won, what back then was, one of the biggest open races around this area The Prenton Open. this was an old bird race with around 400 birds. The race was a bit dodgy to say the least 1000ypm but hey first is first. After that it was all down hill with the odd card but still mates with my ex partner even up til now. we have a laugh whether up or down.  My first race on my own was quite ordinary by comparison, think i was mid table.

on my 1st race i think i was about 6th club in 2004, the best result i got that year was 4th club but no fed postions. most of these pigeons were obtained from louella "6 for £100".

any way the year after 2005 i started again and got rid of all the louella birds and got a whole round from my uncles race team and bred a few my self, 1st young bird race i topped the fed when only sending 8 pigeons. ever since then its been up hill for us.

in 2006 we won the fed championship trophy.and were 2nd highest prize winners in the fed lost it by a £1

well happy

At the age of fifteen my dad let me have my own 8' x 6' loft at the top of the garden.  I caught a 6yr old Belgian Mealy C and a 4yr old Bl H that had come in to us flying the National.  She was from the Cotswolds and the owner let me keep her.  I paired them both together and they bred a beautiful BL WT FLT Hen.  Never forget my first race from Chichester 98mls when I saw her tramming towards the shed so fast, I could hardly keep track of her.  At the club that night, it turned out she'd won the race and later on in the week, I was also told she'd topped the Fed.  Those were the times when there was 4/500 pigeons going from the club.  The members threatened that if I did it two weeks on the trot, they would barr me.  You gussed it, I DID'NT.

Just had my first race couple of weeks ago. Sent only one bird and was satisfied with the result. Air distance was 260kms. Bird managed to do 1170mpm.

I will always cherish and remember that first race. Good luck with yours.

Regards.

well the numbers like 10-20 mean 10 to 20 place!

I was last at my first ever race, but theres never more than 20 on the result sheet so I was 20th.

My first race I was about 10th and the following race went even lower. Then a nice old boy called wally took me under his wing and gave me tips on training feeding etc. The upshot was we battled for the youngbird averages the next 6 weeks. On the last weekend I needed to make about 10mins on him and as luck would have it, it turned out to be a stinker and I won the averages by about 15mins.

All credit goes to Wally who gave me the best start you could wish for in this sport.
