Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 single train them from 10 miles about a minute between each one ;D
Peckedhen Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 I don't think that one minute between releases gives them time to clear - I'd say 10 minutes!!
madmaxlofts Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 as for feeding it all depends what system your on
blackjack Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 May i suggest that you watch the wind and the weather alot of people blow thier yearlings sending too early they meet a cold wind or are simply not ready do not be in a rush. Pick your days for training wind, weather and cloud take them 20miles give them 30 mins to settle then try 3s 15mins apart it will make them think and also make it better if struck by raptors smaller groups broken up. I do not know if your natural like ourselves but send them on 10/14 days sitting do not send yearlings chasing do not be in a rush . Its easy to ruin birds by rushing in to early look at what Frank Tasker wrote on this site . Remember paticince is a virtue and if you want to see what will loses your more birds than any hawk look in a mirror . Dont be in a rush good luck.
peterpau Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Treat 'em with care mate. Our hens have had two chucks at 20 miles, and hope the cocks get there second today. That'll do me.
snowy Posted April 8, 2007 Author Report Posted April 8, 2007 thanks blackjack & all took to worcester this morning, all back 5 mins after me. next toss tomorrow but will toss 4 at a time with ten mins inbetween. thanks again all
peterpau Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Mate our first chuck all back before us. Don't over do it till it warms up.
Guest Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Other than Monday 9th, weather for week seems really good, temps touching 20's winds light & from South. If you are singling them up, really need to allow 10" between each bird, only when the first bird has cleared the horizon, get the next out, give it a minute for a quick look round then let it go. Good luck for Saturday.
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 I don't think that one minute between releases gives them time to clear - I'd say 10 minutes!! your birds must clear slowly then should be half a turn and gone! myne are very good now, ben
Peckedhen Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Do you have someone at home checking that they return singly? I thought that mine were clearing straight away until I realised that they were returning home together!! :B
Wiley Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 ben mate a minute apart isnt long enough my friend be very suprised if there returning all singlally, but who am i to say. When i used to do this had to be 10 mins as pecked said as they were returning together. Also wouldnt want my birds to clear slowly from the basket my friend i want them to clear on release, not to be spending ages spining round and round as soon as the basket is open i want them gone not to go slowly, otherwise didnt think i had them right. Snowy tossing them up in fours is a very good way take my word for it ;)
snowy Posted April 8, 2007 Author Report Posted April 8, 2007 thanks wiley and all. i noticed that they seem to circle about 3 times before heading home. they are normally home b4 me, but today was just a bit ferther than i have taken them b4. maybe a new release point so had a beetter look round b4 they shot home (and i was motoring 110 MPH) an empty motorway at half 7 this morning. thanks again all. what about feeding???? ive slightly cut down to get em fit normally as much as they want shall i build it up as the week goes on to friday?
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 yes snowy you should, wiley my birds normally come home singually 10 mins is to long when you have 40-50 young birds!!
Wiley Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 with young birds mate 4 them up, are you there to get them in singlally or is someone else there to get them in? or do you have an open trap ben? Snowy wouldnt cut the birds down there food mate as this doesnt make them fit, yes good way is to build up
