Tony C Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Looking at photo's of continental fanciers they seem to wear loft coats more so than us in the UK. Can you see the merits in wearing one. Do you wear one or not ? Be interesting to hear your views.

Guest slugmonkey Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 I don't wear a loft coat but with the new inspection requirements for lofts I will soon be starting
Guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 ditto for me slugmonkey, but Steve has some sort of "Flash Mac" Loft Coat <VBG>
Guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 I dont wear a loft coat as such, just a jumper, which I have a few of that are all the same colour, so the birds get used to it.
mealybar Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 I wouldnt call mine a loft coat as much as a trapping coat. When racing and expecially with the ybs I have a light coloured jacked whenever I feed or see the birds. In the morning I'll go in with this on and turf them out for exercise, closing the door behind them. I'll clean out and do the waters (without leaving the loft - birds cant see me) once I'm done and want to leave the loft for a brew, or usually I go and read the BHW in the sitting/corn store - I change to a dark blue jacket. The birds soon know if I'm in the blue I'll chase them from the loft and they must fly. Once I'm ready for them to come in I change jacket (light one now) and go out and open the door and stand not too far away and call them in. Works like a charm :)
westburylofts Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 ALL WAYS WEAR A LOFT COAT THINK IT HELPS THE BIRDS IF THEY SEE YOU IN THE SAME THING. PLUS IT STOPS TERESA FROM MOANING THAT I HAVE MESSED UP A NEW TOP LOL
Guest shadow Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 yes I wear a loft coat and baseball cap , loft shoes which I leave in the garage when finished. Saves the old dear having a moan at me about the dust and feathers.Plus the birds get used to me wearing the same thing. SHADOWOOD LOFTS.
Guest Big Blue Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 I USE A BODDY WARMER. IT IS BLACK OR DARK BLUE BIRDS GET USED TO IT
westburylofts Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 NEVER TRIED A BODY WARMER ON THE BIRDS,
nigel holloway Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 never wear a loft coat,i dont think it makes much of a difference,as long as you take your time and dont rush around they will get used to your voice also.
westy Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 i ahve an old jacket i put on and some old school shoes i put on.
Guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Don't wear a coat, but do wear the same gear around the loft; old long sleeved top winter, old t-shirts; old pair of trackies, old shoes and old slippers. Yes you've guessed; my wardrobe is either old clothes or REALLY old clothes. ;D
perk Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 always wear same colour tops but main thing is your voice and tone of it, wife and kids think i,m mad when they hear me going into the loft saying hello boys and girls in a silly way
zetlandlad999 Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Bought a Loft Coat at Blackpool this year, will wear it when the weather gets warmer.

ray Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 I wear a loft coat birds are ok with it if i wear anything else they are a bit flighty, but i also wear a mask as the dust gets on my chest , and not one of you have mentioned it, you must not have chest problems, if you do get a mask, vanity is not going to help your breathing.

Rentenier Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 I also wear a loft coat (blue) and shoes as my wife may take a swipe at me if I dirty her house. Try and keep in the good books at all times even the pigeons do.
