The White Rapido Man Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Out of interest, what influences your pairings for breeding. (in particluar when breeding a YB team) I know some breed eye to eye....colour to colour.......or general intuition. I would be interested in hearing your various views on this.....and the reasons beind those influences....... thanks TWRM
snowy Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 a top breeder told me to pair performance to performance, or general strain (as in good distance birds to distance birds) etc & sprint to sprint, also ive heard a big cock to a small hen. regards
The White Rapido Man Posted October 17, 2007 Author Report Posted October 17, 2007 ................what about the fish eye (red with purple ring) to wild eye (red with bright yellow ring).................. I have not studied eyesign....but I have been told that this is a good match.......I cannot prove nor disprove it..............niether do I know the reason behind it......
Guest j.bamling Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 i like to pair some pairs best to best or good breeders to good breeders regardless of strains or breed - then there are pairs what just suit each other when you are pairing - then i will try some crosses what i have not crossed before and so on until they are all paired -- at the end of the day it is just a chance or good luck what breeds the champion birds my best racer is not very big but he is bred off 2 x small birds paired together but he is never off the clock !!thats the thing its a game of chance De Klaks 613 was bred from 2 birds that he did not want and when he went in one day they had a young bird so he rang the bird and raced it and then it turned into a champion "613"

DONT BELIEVE ALL YOU HEAR OR READ EYESIGN -EYESIGN HAS NEVER WON RACES YET AS LONG AS THE BIRDS HAVE 2 X EYES THAT DOES ME - JUST TAKE A LOOK AT THE JAN AARDEN OR VAN GEELS THEY ALL HAVE FANTASTIC EYES NOT A BAD ONE OUT OF THEM BUT THEY ARE ALL NOT GOOD RACERS OR GOOD BREEDERS !!!!

Just wondering how you know that they all have fantastic eyes as going by your first two lines you dont think there is anything in it anyway.
Guest j.bamling Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Just wondering how you know that they all have fantastic eyes as going by your first two lines you dont think there is anything in it anyway. You take a look at louella jan aardens a lot of them have fantastic eyesign but not all are fantastic racers or breeders !!! that is all i am saying just take eyesign with a pinch of salt you can believe or dont believe thats what makes racing great
The White Rapido Man Posted October 17, 2007 Author Report Posted October 17, 2007 I would appreciate it if this thread didnt turn into an 'eye sign' debate.......however the views are noted...and gratefully recieved.
PIGEON_MAN Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 Personally i only choose my stock birds bye their eye and only pair them up by their eye, pedigrees and performances when choosing stock birds mean nothing to me,and I can truthfully say i have probably been over 90% correct with my selections.
Guest j.bamling Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 and how many wins do you have a year based on these eyesigns
PIGEON_MAN Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 What i am saying is that over 90% of my stock birds that I have chosen by their eye only have bred winners.
Guest j.bamling Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 and all i am saying is that we have 17 x 1sts last year & my friend john soderlund of south sheilds has 21 x 1sts 22 x 2nds 6 x 1st feds 8 x 2nd feds --- we never look at there eyes so you tell me is it eyesign what breeds good pigeons or is is good pigeons & good luck !!!
Guest Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 -- at the end of the day it is just a chance or good luck what breeds the champion birds Got to agree with you there! Pointed out before that its particular gene combinations that determine the champion bird and as there are literally thousands of genes the number of combinations available from the gene pool is astronomical, and probably its down to only one or two of these combinations that makes a potential champion. First 'roll of the dice' is that only a random selection of half of the cock's total gene pool - and half of the hens total gene pool goes into making our new young potential champion pigeon.. Second 'roll of the dice' is what genes are now 'in the new egg'? how will these genes from cock & hen pair together 'naturally'? what effect will single genes have on the others? what affect will groups of genes have on a single gene? All of these determine the makeup of the new pigeon. Third 'roll of the dice' is when a little 'pair of scissors' comes along and trims some bits off one string of genes and adds them to another string ... changing the makeup of the new pigeon again. But its been said on the forum many times before, it really is in the birds breeding - the 'gene pool' to make your champion has got to be there in the first place. So does it take a Pau winner to breed a Pau winner? Or do you have a better chance with the breeder of a Pau winner?
Guest j.bamling Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 well probably a pau breeder because he has already bred pau wnrs -- a pau wnr might not breed pau wnrs ?
Guest Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 well probably a pau breeder because he has already bred pau wnrs -- a pau wnr might not breed pau wnrs ? Well I think we should now hand over to those who have bred pigeons to win at their chosen distance for a bit of the 'practical' .. What influenced you to choose that particular pair to breed your winner(s)?
madmaxlofts Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 believe winners breed winner duff breeds duff
Guest Hjaltland Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 Winners to winners every time, but agree with shadow - handling does peep into the equation I'm afraid... Dont like pairing extremes of size or shape
jimmy white Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 if your birds are of good quality ,, love matches are as good as anything
Guest Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 feathering ,balance ,eye sign ,cast of pigeoens size i take all these things into consideration both cock and hen must complement each other in all these departments
Guest Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 Cock to Hen normaly works LOL seriously though next time im going to try something diff and cross the birds rather than keep the same families together as they are nearly all long distance from 3or 4 diff national fliers might be interesting
retired Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 some good points best to best i beleive. i feel eyesign is fro the show pen you see a lot of champions with good eyesign but a hell of a lot more without.
EAGLEOWL Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 my eyes and winner to winner nothing else
chickadee Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 my eyes and winner to winner nothing else ;D no offence but your eyes might look a bit odd on a pigeon. ;D ;D ;D ;D ( sorry couldn't resist)
