Isn't there 'names' and 'theories' for all these skin & down colours in the nest? I've seen odd posts refer to plum, pink, gold? but didn't go into detail.

 

Agree with posts here that together with beak colour, they are indications of feather colour, but suspect for some it has much more importance than that.
