Ed Bourque Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I have 13 late breeds, will it afect them if I wait until January before I start loft flying them because of so many hawks right now.
Guest shadow Posted December 22, 2007 Report Posted December 22, 2007 you may find that being strong on the wing you could get a flyaway if they get spooked when first let out
Ed Bourque Posted December 23, 2007 Author Report Posted December 23, 2007 Thanks for the help, shadow

Shadow is quite correct !!!!!!!!! But then, if you don't ;D ;D ;D you might find you will not have any to train anyway. If the hawks have there way ;) catch 22 situation. PS From someone, who's backyard is a perigrins sanctuary.
jimmy white Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 i think i would rather take the chance and let them out :-/ in the thought of "possibly" loosing some,,, rather than later and possibly loose some of them then , as the ones that settle will get a certain amount of "streetwiseness" but im afraid percy gets his dinner when he wants to,, but at least they would become more sharper ,,,,it is a kinda catch 22 situation , so i would just go for it [but if percy did kill one id keep them in as he would be back ]
Guest SMUDGER PETE Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 ive got 16 late breds there out all day every day no harm as come to them touch wood. ;D ;D
Roland Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 I'd leave them pecish and leave the door open when about. Peace and quiet. They will walk in and out and eventually fly ups to roof etc. and then fly around. Some will be back in loft at night fall, others on the roofs and some not there. But as long as they aren't scared up, I'd say nigh all will start going in and out. The most importan thing is that they know and have confidence of the saftey of the loft.
George UK Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 i have to say always fly young birds or they go lazy also they will drop ther feathers all in one go if late breads the more the birds fly less they drop ther feathethers tc George UK
Guest slugmonkey Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 I was sitting in my truck talking on the phone to another fancier when a hawk slammed into the front of my pen trying to get a bird
snowy Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 I have 13 late breeds, will it afect them if I wait until January before I start loft flying them because of so many hawks right now. a good idea is to take them out the loft as often as possible in a basket & face it towards the loft, so they can see where they live,. as they wont have a clue how to get back in if they havent been out before.
