Thursday Basketing

We are barsketing thursday night for a 215 mile inland race from newton abbot

this is a kent combine race as well,

seems to have upset a few members as we have in the past done this on a friday night.

 

what are your thoughts on this

       i think it could be a good idea ray , thinking about the time it would take your transporter to get there , maybe would not leave enough time for resting them before there liberated , its good bit to drive too  newton abbott and try and get an early lib the next morning , time plays a big part in a lot,  trying to keep them all happy in the combine

i would think , the" powers that be " would, or should have a good reason for this, but it certainly wont do the birds any harm

Have to agree the birds come first

and as you say it is a long run to newton abbot

and if i am right libs have to be before 9am,

well ray in that case who ever was responsible ,made a wise choice of the birds going

on a thursday night , he obviously has made the birds come 1st and foremost ,above anything else,  a great decision

aye you are right Harry, a great idea that maybe a lot more should follow regarding travelling to a longer racepoint instead of battering the birds down the road late on a Friday night and then chucking them up early on a Saturday, it gives the birds the whole of Friday to settle and rest and get a good feed and drink

Have to agree with previous posts, the birds should always be priority, and if basketing a day earlier, benefits the birds, then so be it

Don't fancy the birds spending an unnecessary extra day in a transporter in the current warm weather conditions. At 20 C+ it won't be comfortable, especially if the vehicle isn't air-cooled/ air conditioned - and most are not.

 

I think it should depend on how long the road journey takes, including the rest periods for driver's, and birds' welfare during and after the journey.

why use racepoints where the birds have to be liberated before 9am?

i think it's a crazy idea for a inland race, why not basket a bit earlier.   i'm sending to messac with the bbc this weekend and have to basket my birds at 7-00 in the morning ,it's akward as i work shifts but better than the day before. next week also the welsh southeast combine will be at ramsgate which is 240 mls to me and they still go teatime friday and it don't seem to harm them.
