Guest Hjaltland Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 Here's us three weeks into May and the racing season for most well under way with lots of you maybe up to the 200 mile mark. Have any of you turned from south to north this year? and do you intend to go all the way to Lerwick? I'd be interested to hear what are your thoughts about flying north road as opposed to south, what are the the differences you have to deal with?
peterpau Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Mate I turned my south roaders into Perth the first year with bird flu NO TRAINING NORTH they did well just no north roaders round here I would love to fly Lerwick again

PIGEON_MAN Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Allthough we flew north for a season a couple of years back which wasn,t very successful my memories of flying north go back to the 70,s when our club flew that route for many years.Probably my best successes was winning the North Road Championship Club Section G three years in succesion from Perth, on all the occasions the races were very hard the highest vel being 1088.Flying Lerwick I will never forget as the club also had a short race the same day,so come 7.00 pm I went off to the club to strike off the clocks and left the wife who was heavily pregnant at the time with our first son to watch in case anything came from Lerwick, they had been liberated approx 6.00 am flying about 560 miles, well she clocked around 9.00 pm and then got on a pushbike and bought the clock over to me at the club which was about 1mile away, only to be beaten into 2nd place.

Great to hear your thoughts on North road.
PIGEON_MAN Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 People talk of places over the channell but to me Lerwick as allways been one of the hardest racepoints to race from, what with the mists etc have known birds to be held there for nearly a week and then they still have if I remember right over 100 miles of sea to cross before they reach the Scottish mainland.
