chocolate meulemans

Its funney the Gerritson birds in Holland are a little like Busschearts in the UK, they are not so well known outside of there country but they have been terrificaly successful in so many lofts in holland esp from hard 400 miles races as have Jan De Ruiter who had stock going back to Kadet and Benjimen, he was super on the longer 1 day flights esp on big races. In parts of Holland Meulemans are known as good hard 1 day Fond birds yet in the UK some fanciers say they are only speed machine, i think they are good alrounders myself.

Nigel Templer had a cock that was 100% Meuleman, he was a big bugger and had a host of prizes but Niigel always said he was too big, he didnt say that when it won 1st Sect 17th Open NFC Saintes from 400 miles, they come in all shapes ;)

I found the Meulemans best crossed.

Spencer the mother of the pencil (chocolate hen) was bred from two chocolates (90-1790651 x 89-2940369) both beverdams. The sire of the pencil, a pencil himself was bredby Ries and gerard from Kras Bourske 88-6699506 x Champion(?) 86-501389,

My Meulemans are medium to slightly over medium, and thats as they were in the 70s and 80s, domed heads , no dip between beak and forehead, they have shoulders like an ox and back to match, built to do a job and conform to a certain type.  ;)

Thats all i have to hand, some more in attic but will have to get thru it. The Kras Bourske is a belg pigeon, so assume this is one that Ries and gerard bought in?? The two beverdams i'd of thought would be around a lot of top birds as the descendants of these have bred a lot of winners!!

yes you are right Spencer i have my opinion  yes the jvb where popular in the80sto early 90s and the Janssen cross worked  but lets be honest look at the familys that have used the Janssens  with fantastic success and winning right out to Borges on the day in the UNC   look

at the likes of VILLAGE LAD    LODGE STAR  just 2 for example

not saying the jvb where not good in there day but most guys have moved on to faster familys or brought crosses in

cheers Alan

The Beverdam birds are alot in number and most are wonderful producers Mick, but he had so many close to original stuff, i will do some checking for you, as for the kras bourgske, kras is chequer and Bourgske sounds as if she is the line of the old bourgske pigeon.

i let you know what i have.

thanks spencer

But are not janssens a mixture too? I saw some birds the other day and they were direct Janssens bros from only a few years back, and nothing like what i'd seen before (including the mighty ARJAN), and i would not of given a tenner each for them, and not bred that prolofic either.

mickb there are good and bad depends who you get them off  and how far removed

there are many winning out of turn with them you cannot knock results

No doubting that, don't think it matters how far they removed if they winning. But the janssens i remember you can spot a mile off, some still have families of them and all like peas in a pod, others not so much and resemble nothing like the old janssens, and maybe not really janssens either!!

Roland janssens and Silver shadow janssens, why are they still called janssens? Surely crossed, but if they were crossed with " Van Bloggs" then why not cal them Roland van Bloggs, becuase don't sell as well!!

Great depth of knowledge concerning this family Spencer.  Do you run a breeding/stud for sales business? Do you also race?

I do not run a stud, and i have not raced over last 2-3 seasons as changed address and relocated same number of times, i also have 2 young children who are very demanding and need to have my attention most days, the last season i raced i won 50% of races entered and finished out of the prizes once taking pools on occassions, this with a team of 5 hens only.
