madmaxlofts Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 after another disappointing race from nevers sent 2 got 0 lol what distance pigeons do you think are the best for channel racing ive got audrie van der rhees which have done really well for me inland and a few sootjens. i know the van der rhees wont do the distance there good up to 300ish so i sent 2 sootjens and still waiting for a return so i will have to get some tried and tested distance to compete over the channel any ideas
pjc Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 I would see what local fanciers are winning with to your area from the distance you require and try to obtain similar lines from proven stock. Phil
pjc Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Different birds fly to different areas and conditions so always best to look localy but you are often unlikely to be able to buy localy as fanciers are afraid of competition hence the reason for seaking out similar line. Phil
madmaxlofts Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 i dont want to buy locally simply because they wont sell good quality birds that they have to compete against themselves thats why i went out ov town to buy the van der rhees
pjc Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 but the Van de Rhees arn't doing the distance so what family's are your local top guy's flying? Phil
Roland Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Kipps Brothers.... Frank Bristow, ,but having said that it wasn't a Kipps that won the gold cup for him. Yet he has many different strains, mostly directs if not all. Has Tasse, Cessearts, de Honts Kipps etc. etc.
OLDYELLOW Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 got to agree find what are winning for other fanciers in your area , and buy from fanciers in other areas , heres a sneaky tip look at the results and see where the original rings were allocated you will then find there club and watch there results , then approach .
Guest casbri Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 you want van geels..van de wegen..lowiks..these are the birds i race over water
Guest paulrstokes Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Got to agree, look at who is doing well at those distances and approach for latebreds or even eggs. Another idea would be to see if they donate to any breeder buyer sales.
