AdeKem Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 We believe we have a racing pigeon in our garden. It has a green GB08 leg ring,a yellow number leg ring which reads 043..... & red lettering on it's wing, which looks like pearson. What should we do? We have been feeding it bird seed.
tippler1 Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 it is a young bird if you know the full ring number we could let you know ware its from and on the wing thay should be a phone number but as it is only coming for food thay is not much you can do unless you can catch it
R Lindsay Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 I have a serious problem I have lived in my Aberdeenshire Council House for nearly two years now with my husband and two little boys and have had racing pigeons for all this time but due to an ignorant persons complaint the council now want our sheds down and pigeons gone. My husband and I race our pigeons together and love this hobby our pigeons are very dear to us. We need help we do not want o have to get rid of them we are not the only people who have racing pigeons in our street and I'm sure not the only people who have racing pigeons and live in a council house. They don't bother anyone and are always clean and well looked after. Help!!
pjc Posted August 2, 2008 Report Posted August 2, 2008 R Lindsay, prob best to start another thread so we can help the above non fancier and yourself. AdeKem, you need to catch the bird and keep it confined so that the owner can arange for return of the bird. When you catch it let us know the ring number and we can hopefully give you a contact but when you catch it if you open the wing you may find a telephone number of the owner for you to ring. When you have cought the bird please keep it somewhere safe with food and water away from cat, dogs etc. Phil

Phil I have contacted the owner. But as you say, unless I can catch it there is no point him coming over.
pjc Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 The owner won't be more than 10/15mins away from you and may even bring you a bit of corn to call the birds down and help to catch it.

AdeKem Posted August 8, 2008 Author Report Posted August 8, 2008 Update Fed & waterd said pigeon daily. Did not see it at all yesyerday & not seen today either. Hopefully all is good with it,myself and the wife had become quite attached to it. Thanks for all your help & advice.
invalidusername Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 You've done a damned good job feeding and watering it, and if the owner has any sense (and your contact details) it'd be nice if he could confirm that it's returned home. Either way, well done, and thanks for helping it on its way :-)
