jimmy white Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 sometimes there is rubbish for sale, but i suppose thats up to the buyer, but im of the opinion there are many" different,, same distance pigeons " my veiw is to have pigeons that have won at the distance, in your own particular terrain, these are the ones that are important to you,,,, if i could explain by saying, if i were racing 5-600 miles into scotland , i would be prepared to purchase birds that have either done this journey,or terrain, well, or birds bred from them, as close as possible ,,,,,,,,, at the other end of the scale, i wouldnt want birds that have won , at this distance, say, in holland [im sure the same would be vica-versa,,] im sure there are variations in between
OLDYELLOW Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 could never understand why louella crossed aardens with that brasspenning strain two opposites if i ever saw one have to agree the krauth x ardens better , shame they dint cross some of the older familys

OLDYELLOW Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 A..R.Hills was where the grizzles came from but the Kirkpatricks had Putman Sion and bricoux in them , the typical early ones were mainly red black splashed ones like the Carruther Kirkpatricks , but grizzles are prettier

jimmy white Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 A..R.Hills was where the grizzles came from but the Kirkpatricks had Putman Sion and bricoux in them , the typical early ones were mainly red black splashed ones like the Carruther Kirkpatricks , but grizzles are prettier ;D ;D ;D a lot of folks dont know this but ;D ;D ;D johnny kirkpatrick stayed in loanhead, about a half mile from my house,, he was very freindly with p, and j thompson [who owned the shoe shop in loanhead], and like arther hill of st just, was both, master breeder and racer,, , p, and j, scored well at the distance with exchanged pigeons, with johnny kirkparick, who then moved down to the solway area,,and as o,y, says his birds were based on the old bricoux/sion [same as dr anderson of armadale] lines, plus the putman breeds , many decendants of these johnny kirkpatrick lines are still winning to-day
OLDYELLOW Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Logan, Osman Putman and some bloodlines from a Dr. White , Sion, Marriot and Bricoux , Gits and the Barker amongst others thats there base , but i wouldnt be supprised if Grooters were in them

pjc Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Remember a blue hen from them, strangely the only blue they bred, she had 12 1st's and missed topping fed by decimals. I didn't need to pair her to race, she flew to me. The old lines had such a calm nature.

Guest monkeynuts71 Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 nice birds. it seems the kirkpatricks are very popular. but is this because they are good birds or is the fact alot are grizzles, reds, mealies etc instead or cheqs and blues?
OLDYELLOW Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 its because there good honest birds and win
