Guest spin cycle Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 seeing as it's halloween how about some 'trapping nightmares' . your worst trap of the year or bizarest/ lamest excuse you heard. to start off here's mine. 1st yb race and a racepoint that takes ob about 1- 1 1/4 hours. down at the loft on 55 mins all set but i thought that anything about 1 1/2 hours would be good but 2 hours may be right ( as i'd been reading early season yb vels on here) after about 10 mins i got sudden 'pangs' of nature ( and not the kind easily remedied ). reasoning that there'd be none back yet and i wouldn't last much longer i resolved to go indoors..not wanting to find 1 in the stall trap i unlocked it... went to the loo and returned on the 1 1/4 mark. checked inside the section (nothing) and resumed my vigil. 5 mins later it started to rain so i put the clock in the store (6 paces from the trap)...then on the 1 1/2 hour mark i caught sight of a dk chequer turning in , exited i turned..6 steps to clock..6 steps back...expecting to see youngster on loft roof...but nothing....puzzled i looked round...after a while i thought it was a stray or another racer..so i just went back to waiting...on the 2 hour mark another dk chequer appeared circled landed and 'surveyed' the trap (dizzy)....after a couple of mins it trapped...but instead of being caught it went into loft...i'd forgotten to reset bob wires...swearing i went into section..to find not 1 but 2 race rubbered dk chequers...the first had obviosly trapped in seconds !!! whilst i was retrieving the clock. the moral of this story( and this is especially important for novices ) DO NOT HAVE A DONNER KEBAB ON THE WAY HOME FROM MARKING
steve d Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 When I first started out about 15 years there was a bloke in our club who thought he had a divine right to win every race when he didn't the excuses were unreal, foxes on the loft, squirrels in the sputnik, washing out next door, etc but his best one of all time was the bloke 3 gardens down was cleaning the windows when the birds came. ;D ;D ;D
terry mccarthy Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 worst thing this year essex combine standing there waiting for birds by the bk door on the phone all of a sudden thousands of starlings take off all around us im talking away mrs says hes let his poxie birds out again meaning bloke across from us i said dont worry about it there come in they wont wory about them i carried on talking i lifted my head up took a loog look at these birds flying about round this blokes loft they seemed to be caught up with the starlings with that i screemed at the mrs theres a grizzle in there *expletive removed* sake i said there ours with that i threw the flirts bang they went 3 together all timed within 1 second then i get 2 more straight after then another 3 started counting them up checked clock 2 missing i was gutted so put them across pad myself then birds were flooding in worked out i lost combine by just over a minute and lost second by 15 seconds ended up 3 4 5 15 16 18 plus another 7 in result gutted wasnt the word for it never take things for granted and always have your wits about you and listen for the bleep
little sam Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 NOT HAD A BAD TRAP, FIRST THING WITH YOUNGSTERS ONCE THEY HAVE STARTED FLYING PROPERLY AND STARTING TO KIT IS GET THEM TRAPPING LIKE ROCKETTS
Guest Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Was out shopping with Mrs and kids, knew the birds were up . Got home 5 sat on loft, clocked one in for avearges and pools and came 2nd club! My watch had stopped, so never mind.
just ask me Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 i won in my club maybe 5 or 6 weeks in a row or even more not to sure and every weel a certain member came up with trapping excuses the best bit was he only ever lost enough time to just bearlly beat me by 30 seconds or so he could have wrote a book with what he came up i was there thinking hat it he cant use any more and hed come up with more it was unreal his excuses
fletch Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 a few years ago i didnt turn the key on the stb far enough to make it bump only realised when went to clock the second bird in finished 2nd and 3rd club lost the club buy 10 seconds and lost the fed but 20 seconds. ( my old man was not happy at all he didnt talk to me for a few hours) another question why do these cock ups always happen on the good days not on the bad days when you are out with the washing and doesnt make a diffrence to your result
mazzie Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 my worst trap of the year well there were a lot missed the first yb race and sent 77 to the second race 23 came at once and flew about for 5 mins then a couple of races later a yb sat out for 15 mins and lucky enough another bird came and won the race but i should have bein topping the fed i was 12 that ybs for you
collins and stevens Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Funniest one I heard was when one of our members got an early bird ...panicked blowing his whistle hard forgetting he had his pipe in his mouth!!!!!! missed the bird cause he was on his back covered in hot ash!!! ;D........worse was 2 mates were in attendance to see his slick movements.. ;D ;D
jimmy white Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 one of the funniest [not at the time ;D] was seeing the bird drop ,, running towards the loft . only to be catapulted back with the washing line by the throat ;D ;D
REDROCKET Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 nice one jimmy did you win the race(happy)
jonj1978 Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 our maisie had a bad trap with her ybs this year.. bird arrives dropped on trap after 2 mins ( bare in mind its a breeder buyer) goes into stall trap turns around and gets out ( this is a rather large cock bird ) TOTALLY LOST IT 6 mins later WE get a bird clocked it in. after an hour the aformaentioned bird comes back lands on trap and goes in. anyway go to club WE take 2nd & 3rd ( 6 minutes behind our maisie ) how annoying it would have pi**ed 1st and may have stood a chance at the breeder buyer as it entered it with 2 x 4ths 360 odd birds.... a 1st may have sung it her way.....best about it the bird only cost me a £10 ( now called pavarotti )
Guest strapper Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 one of the funniest [not at the time ;D] was seeing the bird drop ,, running towards the loft . only to be catapulted back with the washing line by the throat ;D ;D your lucky it didnt peg it lol lol
Guest bigda Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 there was a good one a few years in our club, the mate had two black cocks with white flights, he drop one three Weeks earlier, with a blue race rubber on, anyway he sent the other black cock to this race and made it his pooler and it was in the yearling race he was standing around his back at 12"o clock when the birds where due, then come like a bat out of hell this black cock so he took the gutty from it and timed it then at 3min past 12 he has another blue pigeons go in and doesn't put it in the clock has another at 4min past 12and doesn't clock it then at 15 past 12 the the black cock comes you should have see his face as he grabs it and say hope this is not the, you guessed it it was his pooler with the same color of gutty on and racing out of the same loft, so he lost out that year on all averages as he never put any in the clock after all that and was given a N.T.S
Guest slugmonkey Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 I came home from driving the race to find my unikon unplugged I had 13 of 19 day birds on one race and 11 of 22 on the other I got 3rd through 17th with another loft in there at 9th on the one race and was late on the other with my birds taking the last half of the day birds
