Roland Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 Had a Red Chequer till just a few weeks past ... Only ever had one night out from the races - * Pau -. Otherwise always in the clock. Flew consistently 2nd for 8 years. Did actually take a couple of cards.... Never bred Piddly Pip. Now every time it was trained, especially in early season, it took a day or 3 /4 to get home! Most said, cracking looking bird... but I'd get shot off personally'! You know what! they were right!
Beanz Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 The ugly ones look nicer when they win, all the nice ones are probably better in shows, a fancier in our club had a youngster with a deep and bent keel, he hated it but it started to win at the end of the season it was his favourite bird. Roland Posted December 19, 2008 Author Report Posted December 19, 2008 No really Sam, it just wasn't good enough! Likewise a Cheqeur Cock bird. Won every year of it's race life from 70miles to Bergerac 535 miles. As a yearling wouldn't mate, flew brill just to it's perch with he vigourously defended sucessfully against all comers. Won three times to new loft, and Both on the North and South. had many good hens, even bad ones - on purpose of course - Never bred Piddly Pip. Never did, and would never have. Yes young were good 'Homers' but not racers. Sometimes - on purpose of course - is used when the hen lacks the quaility to reproduce the 'Good parts' and then one hopes the Cock Birds Good parts shine through... and sometime regardless, they never come through
