when i tried it , its just come back to me , memory lapse they were never paired at all

i was trying somthing called dry widowhood , different hen every week , right balls up to be honest .

so can see that letting them sit 10 days would be better for the motivation

Did ok with hens but cocks struggled, would pair and put them on first baby for later/longer races and really gives them a boost!!

I have yearlings on widowhood. They sit and part rear a single. The young and hens are parted off at 15 days aprox.

It is important not to wind them up too much. I lock them up in their nest boxes to reduce the fighting and bullying. They are fed in their nestboxes.

The hens are not used until they get back from their first race. I train hard. Up to 20 tosses before the first race. No hens.

Mine fly really well. 2nd Fed, 3rd Combine on first race- 55miles. The same bird was 2nd club 4th fed 355miles.

Not all yearlings like widowhood. I would not want them anyway, so I either loose them or get shot of them at the end of the year.

I have no idea about roundabout. Never done it.

I might try hens this year for the first time, if I get time. They will be paired to Stock Cocks and then on to widowhood. I don't think I would risk spoiling my widowhood cocks by pairing them to hens that race (roundabout).

dont doubt that sammy that was how i used to send my yearlings to the yearling derby knocked at the door a no of times but i would only do that with 1/2. yearlings get very easily excited and thats why i would allways let them rear a nest or you could lose some good yearlings just my thoughts many roads lead to 1sts

I flew yearlings only (first full season when I moved) in 2007 on roundabout. Channel /distance is my prefernce, the first three channel races I was 234,12, 234. I then had a smack on a training toss with Percy only 1 out of 5 racing cocks home. So I paired up with this one and some spares, didn't score at 380 mile next race and lost my one hen I sent to Tarbes! Then the birds were brought back from 473 miles because of avian flu. My yearlings reared the first round. When I did pair up the birds lost their 'sparkle'.

2008 I flew widowhood cocks through to Tarbes getting the two yearlings I sent in good time, racing straight widowhood no pairing, teasing.

yes i won 3 x 1st club 2nd sec arras last year with yearlings on roundabout but they all reared a nest

all my yearlings are flown roundabout, when it's time to part them any that have not had young, go without . it does'nt seem to bother them.  last season i had yearlings win that had raised young and other's win who had'nt.
