Bilco Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Invincible Spirit I think if memory serves me aright. Louis paid £77K for Smaragd I, £107K for Smaragd II, £125K for VHB, and a little less for another Barcelona winner. Michael will tell you if you email him or catch him on the phone. I handled all those early Aces on my visits, but Smaragd II was (to my mind) the best of them all. A very intelligent bird. Most of the expensive birds and their history used to be on the LPW web pages, probably still is. Owned/Raced by Mynheer Biemens.
rooster Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 i thought this pigeon was the highest priced pigeon ‘BEN’ As for the great long distance I do not need to think long, the best is a cock from 1998 called ‘Ben’ (98-361048) raced by Ben Robert from France. His performances in 2 day races were incredible but what makes this bird even more special is that in some races its location was far from good. Ben Robert lives west and when the wind is west as well it is not possible to win a top prize. But ’Ben’ won top prizes even when the wind was against him. What makes this bird also special is the fact that it performed in all circumstances. Rain, hot, tailwinds, headwinds, to ‘Ben’ it hardly made any difference. Its main performances: - 2001. Barcelona National (France) 1,590 p – 3rd - 2003. Barcelona National 1,835 p – 2nd. International 20,204 p – 20th. Perpignan National 1,514 p – 3rd. International 16,800 p – 3rd . - 2004. Barcelona National 1st. International 24,914 p – 5th Perpignan National 5th International 20th

Guest G.Drysdale + son Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 I know it's not the most expensive but in Blackpool this year we went to an auction and the seller somebody called Fox (i think) had 50 birds all for auction they all sold cheapest £100 upto £2500 a tidy wee lift.
thunderboult Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 was the record broken for a bird sold to Japan / China ? a year or so back? yes, it was super ben of robert ben calais. as mentioned above .i think it worked out at about £150,000. got the story here in a pictorial, knock on the door one day guy standing there with a suitcase full of money, robert tells him no and sends him on his way, his kids manage to change his mind and go after the bloke, the rest is history as they say.
