vanreets Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 hi what would be your smallest y/b race team
vanreets Posted August 1, 2009 Author Report Posted August 1, 2009 such a lot of questions. you dont know untill you ask
Guest shadow Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 always raced a team of 30 young birds :)
vanreets Posted August 1, 2009 Author Report Posted August 1, 2009 so 12 would not be ok i see i would need more because of losses etc
Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 12 is okay, see people fly with less, not many though, we have a team of about 30 but usually end up racing 20 just to cover our backs. You ask away with the questions but do us a favour and get rid of them puking smileys, making me sick. ;D ;D ;D
chris h Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 between losses and hawk attacks your race team will be what you have left, whether its 2 0r 50
Ronnie Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 well i had me a big team of 36 this year(a few where later bred than others) 3rd race in i'm on 12 a few bad trainers and your team is gone.Ive 16 boxes in my oldbird loft the way things stand at the moment i will still have 5 empty come next year.Lol still quality not quantity i suppose.

Mob flyers throwing hundreds in the air and are nigh on impossible to beat in races with the numbers they put in but when you do win boy is it sweet, you know that quality has overcome the quantity even for just the one race, and your corn bill is a whole lot less. 8)

andrecrock Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Hi mate,my first y/b season last year i started with 19.I only raced them up to 120 miles and missed bad weather like this week.My idea was to set them up for the yearling stage and more important the 2year old stage.I ended my season with 14 birds. Now i might have been lucky then but as soon as i started the yearlings this year,on my first race i lost 6 out of 14.This year i bred 50,half on the darkness and half natural. And i will be pushing them as hard as i can.

peterpau Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 Well I've sent 5 tonight and they are my birds planned for Lamballe.
Guest Owen Posted August 1, 2009 Report Posted August 1, 2009 To me it is not about numbers. Obviously you will need enough to donate your fair share to the peregrine but it will be the quality that really matters. I do not find it worth breeding from birds that have done nothing. Their young will take up the space and air that could be used by better birds. Why not consider getting yourself a really good cock and use him as a Bull. That way you will have winners on one side of the young birds you breed. Not that they will automatically all be great, but at least it will be a step in the right direction. And if you carry on doing that you will end up with very good pigeons. The only draw back could be that they will be crosses. If you are the sort of person who likes to bragg about having van this and that, you will not be able to do it. Of course you will be able to bragg about your wins which is better, much better.
