Tony C Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 If you could get hold of Amoxicure (Amoxicillin) I'd try that first. Alternatively http://www.chevita.com/en/products/chloramphenicol-n.php

THE PRIEST Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 You might want to take the result of the test to your local vet to get the correct treatment.
DOVEScot Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 You might want to take the result of the test to your local vet to get the correct treatment. Yes the bacteria might be resistant in part or in whole to the one you give, Amoxicillan is a broad spectrun antibiotic
Guest Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 I agree with the previous posts. Would have expected diagnosis to be followed by recommended treatment inclusing a specific course of medication.. Still think it will cheaper in the long run if you consult a vet.
GROVEHOMER Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 DJ, put 2 or 3 garlic cloves in a litre drinker for 5-7 days, also give them pro-biotics (strike) on their corn.Better than giving them antibiotics, hope this works for you, I reckon it will!
Guest Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 The benefit of garlic is that it acts against a variety of stuff, and swats it all at the same time. This is especially relevant with your birds, Debbie, as they have been under attack twice,. and their immune system is likely to be a bit run down, so everything will be having a go at the bird at once.. However fan as I am of garlic, I would hesitate in advising its use against any illness in such an advanced state. I stick to my original advice, visit an avian vet, cos this is a respiratory bacterial disease, like chlamydia, and not a digestive system bacterial disease, like salmonella. Need to know what's going on, how to treat it effectively and most importantly its likely cause and how it can be prevented in the future. Only a vet can do all this.
Guest shadow Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 definately a vet job find out what you are dealing with, surprised they did not tell you

DJ Posted January 1, 2008 Author Report Posted January 1, 2008 thanks 4 the info paul re the tetracycline im still waiting 4 the avian vet to get back to me but i will try him again tomoro morning and hopefully get 2 see him a.m. sameday im thinking that maybe one of the the strays that have entered my loft this year have brought something in? hopefully the vet can sort it 4 me once and 4 all : il let u know how it go,s and thanks again debbie
