Used it this year for old birds following mark caudwell system.  Nigel cowood and pj lofts sell.  Think it is to put oxygen into blood supply.  Smells like cherry cola. Birds seem to enjoy it

tried it, don't use it any more,, use individual stuff instead..

suppliments, vitamins, acids, yeasts,,, we know whats in it then,,

lots on the market though,, red cell, zell oxygen,, lots about,,,

I use red cell ( sparingly ) I put it right on food I think it has too much Iron to use real often

its a vitamin and iron, mineral  tonic , first made for horses [certainly not given to the ones i back ;D]

Best used sun-monday,but would not intend using it after that,i tested it a few years ago on seperate pigeons and found if used after tuesday it slowed the birds down for saturdays races.but an excelent tonic for a hard race recovery.

Interesting the use of red cell in pigeons,in horse racing it is used to boost the red cell count if a horses is wrong, it helps kick start the red cell count and then the horse should be able to maintane the level due to food and training if its well.An over high blood count can have an adverse reaction indicating over training There is better stuff than red cell .but it has to be stopped 14 days before racing due to sustances not naturaly produced by a horse (ASK YOUR VET)..but not continued once the horse can maintaine a high red blood cell level.As for pigeons best listen to the ones who have tested red cell on their own birds .Interesting though :-/

I have never used Red Cell but I know of a fancier in my area who last year used it in the drinkers every day for a month and poisioned his pigeons with it.

 

His birds were very lethargic when loft flying around the house and were 15-20 minutes late every week from short inland races. After 3 weeks of this he called a vet in to check his birds out; as their skin was a very dark purple and the vet told him that he  had poisioned his pigeons by giving them Red Cell continiously for a month.

 

After he stopped his birds came better after about 3 weeks. As fas as I know all he was told to give the birds was pigeon tea and garlic 2 days each a week.

if everthink what was wrote on a bottle worked there wouldnt need to be so many wonder products about,i think the more crap you give your birds the worse they performe and then at the end of the year we blame the birds for been crap and get rid,make you think eh

Yes, Blood packing is more the thing to - day...

Red cell Oxygen etc.

Go into a chemist, then Tesco's chemist etc. and ask how one best put in oxygen into the blood stream etc can.

They smile usually and when pressed say. Finer, clearer and better air!

Now an Oxygen tank, like the Hospitals use or supply (Which they don't actually) ... like my grandson needed till 3-4 years of age allows them access to better oxygen. But how to administer it eh!

A pressure chamber eh?

Make them masks?

Probably the additives in the likes of Red Cell etc. do the bird a power of good!

Me, well now I buy most things I want - or feel the pigeon need - at the supermarkets. Read the labels on them and act accordingly.

But after 15 years of searching and pestering for the answers, without getting hold of the real McCoy, which is very illegal, then I feel you can't.

Still have one eye opened for it ... but am resigned to doing without.

Iron yes is good... but it doesn’t increase any oxygen in the blood, likewise anything else according to the chemists.

Can't get a system legally for Humans without Doctors say so etc. Let alone for ... JMO

Red blood cells are the way the body carries oxygen to the cells,[at least the haemoglobin? in them does], and is part of the energy-producing process.

 

You should not have to feed a horse supplement as the iron contained in your pigeon minerals is fed to maintain this internal system.

 

Think Roland is right, sounds like someone is trying to get more oxygen in the body to burn more energy, to produce more power. Maybe need to strap on an oxygen tank then, cos how do you get more oxygen from the outside into the body for all these extra blood cells to carry?

Red Cell is simply a vitamin/minerial supplement that contains iron, which most pigeon supplements do not. Thats why some fanciers use it, they think their birds benefit from the iron. But it is made for horses, 100's of times larger than a pigeon, and thus should not be over done. I have used it but I'm not sure it was any better than any other vit/min supplement made for pigeons. I used it for my pony, and my goats, and then decided it would be good for my canaries too. I saw adverse affects on my canaries. So now I use pigeon supplements for my pigeons and canary supplements for my canaries but I still use Red Cell for my goats and large animals.
