pigeonman007 Posted October 22, 2008 Author Report Posted October 22, 2008 Thanks for the replies all. Will use it just as a cleaner for my drinkers. And it is very handy for shifting red wine from clothes as well lol
DUBLINFLYER Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 if you have the bottle then it will state it on the bottle.... this just purifies the water.... it is recommended by experts for human consumtion! and i would have no hesitation drinking water with milton in it at the recommended dose. it just purifies it, now i'm not saying this is what i practice but i use to 15 year ago n never affected the birds

Guest IB Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Like any disinfectant has an external effect only; in this case will sterilise drinking water, but jury is still out for how long the water will remain sterile; any protein inactivates Milton solution, so is it sterile until the first bird drinks, or the first fleck of dust lands in the water?
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 if babys can have it then birds can
peterpau Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 if babys can have it then birds can Use it 2 or 3 times a week. Like the man says read the label. My birds always come home from a race to it, and yes it is 98% rehydrating fluid so it has some salt in it.

Milton is a type of chlorine (bleach) Sodium hypochlorine? and is for sterilising babies stuff and nothing to do with rehydration. Can be used for sterilising drinking water, but as soon as it comes into contact with any protein, for example saliva, turns to salt. Don't think a mouthful of salty water can be called a rehydrating fluid - exact opposite.
Guest Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Never "ask" a pigeon to drink water that you will not drink. We used to use it when camping, it is safe to use in drinking water.
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 when you take bottle and dummy out do you wash them no so its safe for babys and birds
Guest IB Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 when you take bottle and dummy out do you wash them no so its safe for babys and birds Well you are told to rinse them .. thoroughly. You are also told that the worst that can happen if a baby swallows Milton is that the (now) salty water will make it vomit. Making a baby sick isn't exactly what new parents want is it?
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 by rinseing you are putting bacteria back on dummy and bottle and beleave me my 5 son.s are big healthy ones
