hen wont go down

we have a pair that hatched and reared 2 young

there has been NO chicks in the nest now

for about 4 weeks

the cock is chasing the hen

but she's not going down again

any ideas

A leave them as the are

B lock them in  the nest box

If the cock is chasing the hen, she should be in the nest, if she is, may be she has gone barren. If she sits in the nest a lot, you could try putting an egg under her in the evening and see if she sits it.

Give her another week Mick, if she doesn't lay in that time I would separate the pair and the put them back together again. Is she an old hen Mick. Has she gone into a heavy body moult

maybe they dont no my freind or they could be bots or guests who cant reply,

 

i would split them up for a week or two

my guess would be overweight, split them, get her back in breeding condition then repair but a lot of hens will stop laying when they are heavy in moult.

Do you also realy still want to be breeding now as most have finished?

try puttin a dummy egg under her  she may have went of her cycle   she will go down on them , had a hen that done this this put back on , laid eggs

alrite mate she could be over weight also pick her up and just feel by her bottom there are two bone if she is going to lay the bones will be few inches apart from each other 8)
