i would tip some strains that have been made their own by local fancier beating any big money puchase!

You can only go by the pigeons in your area and in our area where they have to fly against the wind most weeks the VDB havedone very well, and from Brian Ferris they have done extremely well and still do not only for him but mant others!!!

Most people find faster because they make there own pigeons slower!!!!

I spent £1000s on Gaby and found them to not suit me or my area yet some on the east side say they are the best they have, its a fact that different pigeons suit the West of the Country than the East!!!! In the same way if i wanted very fast channel pigeons i would not go to the UNC even though its probaly the toughest competition in the uk.

Horses for courses.

They dont sell birds and in the majority of cases unless you got some popular name they dont get the publicity or notice they deserve   Give me an old fashioned english strain when you come up against a hard distance race any day

I thought the idea was to have birds for your own pleasure and to race and hopefully win with, not to purchase fancy names with the sole purpose of making a quick buck out of them because they are the flavour of the moment. Nothing wrong with the good old fashioned British strains and it is hardly surprising how many people are enquiring about these tried and tested strains on this forum ;)

Theres people winning with everything out there doesnt matter what breed they are they all breed a lot of rubbish as well as the good ones depends on whether you get the right ones and how you race them seen birds do brilliantly for one person and another person they do nothing for  Think like Stuart says some birds do better in certain areas than others yet race them from somewhere completely different and they might not do a thing
spot on rose, good and bad in all familys. you have to get the right ones to start with. and yes some pigeons do well in areas and not so well in others.

you can buy the birds but you dont get the fancier with them. may not suit your management system but does not mean they are bad birds.
