Marky5 Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 SUGGESTIONS ON A IMPORTANT TREATMENT THANKS
Mike Lycett Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 I voted for "other" 'cos there's not a bird on our garden ever been treated for it. If you've got birds of a sound constitution then surely its not needed?
bewted Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 best treatment is FRESH CIRCULATED AIR , AND F R E E !

TheSaddler Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 I treat every year before race season - Something that contains doxycycline is best. I used an Ornicure product this year but brand is irrelevant. It's best never to treat blind - I'd suggest testing before treatment. I disagree that fresh air and good constitution prevent a pigeon getting an infection. The various infections can be spread in the race basket and although the strong pigeons have less chance of catching it, they are not immune. This may help some:- http://www.epah.net/birds/Herpesvirus.html Dont forget treatments account for 1% of a pigeons performance - the rest is down to the skill of the fancier and the quality of the pigeon.
Guest Silverwings Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 agree with sadler on this ,loss of form and condition ,check out their respiratory system before they race ......ray
Guest Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 I treat mine with Doxy-T, which is a mixture of Doxycyline and Tylan, and am following the Australian vets advice about treating for it and wet-canker on a three to four week cycle this season on half of my team to see if its make a massive difference. I have always been against treating for anything, but my birds went off form last year after getting what a vet has told me was wet canker, so I dont want to risk another bad last half the season of dissapointment.
rlez Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 plenty of fresh air between the neck and shoulders
jimmy white Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 i agree with mike lycett,........ tylan will cure it, but itll lower their resistence in the long run,,,its all about strong constitution, bred through and through
Guest shadow Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 Never had to treat for respirtaory disease for the last 7 years good ventilation and bred of stock that suffer nothing is the best way forward.
speedbird Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 what are the symtoms of respirtaory problems dont think ever seen it
MsPigeon Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 It can be very suttle. You may not even see any signs of it in the loft but they don't make it home. Go in the loft at night and listen for sneezing or rattles in their breathing. Look in their mouth to check their throat and tonsils and what the syliva looks like. Check their nostrils closely for any discjarge or dust sticking inside their nostrils do to dampness from a slight discharge. Dr. Collin Walkers book goes into detail. Carol
peterpau Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Race 'em hard, and any that are suseptable to respiratory will soon be gone. You'll end up with better birds, no need to treat.
sj irving jnr Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 i have had it once and i never want to see it again, the best of it was i did not have alot of pigeons, but could it have been me not having them out in the winter cause thats when i had it?
Guest stevie-b Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 the problem with moddern day pigeon fanciers are stuck in the dark ages if your loft is enclosed then you must treat regulary i recomend orni special and all other deweert products
peterpau Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 If you must treat. Why does my local vet, ( A pigeon fancier himself ) recommend, Don't treat. Colin Walker the pigeon vet, also says the same. Just as an asside, my lofts are enclosed. Clocked my pau pigeon in NRCC for 8th sec Perth yesterday.
ribble Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Clocked my pau pigeon in NRCC for 8th sec Perth yesterday. good versatile pigeon, that one.well done.
pender Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 i find it hard to beleive, that any succsesfull fanciers never treat for resp, in this day and age. thats the diff between our top men and the top men on the cont, they dont hide there treatments, it is if people over here are ashamed of using them, very few over here will tell you what they use they either dont want you to no incase you find the golden treatment, or they ashamed to tell. there is a thing called the magic bottle, it wont make bad pigeons good but it does make the good pigeons perform better beacause you need the perfect health to obtain the top results , and the day of the fresh air clean water and good beans are gone.

You must not have read the book very good, because doctor Walker does suggest that you do treat and names several of their top flyers that do.
