I was offered a red mosaic Van Loon cock a couple of years back by a Mr & Mrs Carr of Dundee who used to adertise Planet Van Loons on a semi-regular basis in the BHW (as well as the old Corbetts) and it set the alarm bells ringing, so I phoned up Gary Planet and I asked him if it was possible and he said yes indeed, and that from time to time, the family would throw up reds and mosaics, especially when pairing the Scrumpy x Thunderbird and Whiteflight bloodlines particularely closely together, but I don't think these are the same reds as those being advertised by Jaap on Elimar, which upon inspecting the pedigrees, have definitely got a splash of the old Tournier in them.

people will pay a fortune for these so called pedigree birds on the continent and all of them are crossed with other winners regardless of names !!!

makes you laugh dont it,,,if you cross a bird here in uk most fanciers dont want to know,,,,,cross it in the belgium or similar country and its worth a fortune and comes with pedigree !!!!

Cross's are what bred you the goods I've found people go on and on about strains but its just a mans name at the end of the day good birds are good birds. I've found the van loons to be a very good bird to cross in so far

The most important aspect of buying any pigeons is results, both of the dutch breeders mentioned have none as they are none fanciers!! They are breeding pigeons of colour and type purely to sell and if you check there pedigrees they buy low value stock and sale at a competative price. They i believe cross some pigeons with Show Pigeons to enhance there beauty but again i dont think they hide this (seen it on another thread).

Nowt wrong with that, if people CHOOSE to invest in there stock then thats there choice.

The birth place of Grizzle Van Loons is Aad Van Berkel of Rotterdam, they came from a cheq Van Loon Rominger and a Grizzle Hen 817 who was 50 % Van Loon 50% Tournier, this pair bred Silver Shadow, Silver Shadow 2, Silver Boy Silver Star, Silverman etc and this is the only line there is. In Van Loons loft you will only find Blue and Cheq.

Most of the birds on Elimar have very very little Silver Shadow Van Loon in them, they have been paired to other grizzles lines to maintain the colour purely for the purpose of selling and not a result in sight.

i remember reading years ago that most belgium fanciers liked to cross a red bird into their family to improve feather quality so realy you can expect a red to pop up anywere you dont see red gabys but m&d have a main stock pair that has prodused mealys ?

reds will only as you say pop up anywhere   if you have reds in your team , you will not get them out of blues or cheqs many afancier been done not knowing that information

only last year at blackpool  , i was interested in a dark cheq delbar on ian axes stall , only one problem ,its sire was ablue , and its dam was a blue pied  , when i pointed it out to them , were not interested , so theres one stud i wont bother with again
