pjc Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Exactly, no point treating for it to reoccur when treatment finished but as you have said where the birds came from and there have been many reports of problems with there youngsters i would get dropping and swabs taken as there is most likely other problems.
Guest strapper Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 fresh air is no miracle to stop diseases entering your loft....the sooner the idea is gone the better! there are many illnesses that are airbourn!...how many humans catch illnesses and maybe working outdoors 7 days a week? youngbird sickness like others will attack a healthy bird or an unhealthy bird...it dont choose!..an healthy imune system only puts up a barricade for so long b4 the disease gets hold. too many believe fresh air is a cure to stop it...it only HELPS to prevent most resp infections. there was one famous fancier years a go(cant remember his name) stated that 50% of pigeon fanciers tell the truth about having illnesses....50% lie....or dont realise they have something. every fancier will encounter some sort of problem at some time....remember you might have a clean nice loft ..but when they enter that basket down your club and held over for a few days... i believe the only way to keep your birds healthy is to have droppings tested frequently and medicate your birds with the RIGHT AMOUNT of medication prescribed by your vet...or what it states on the bottle.
