Guest Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I have just discovered I have quite a few moths in the stock loft - I have put in pheronet moth traps on the ceilings but haven't caught many. What is the best method to eliminate these critters Cheers
Peckedhen Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 How about a putting a bright light outside when it's dark to attract them out?
Chatrace Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 about 8 mothballs in a nylon stocking and hang at each end of the loft, they are coming from the feed most likely
THE FIFER Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 GET SOME STRONG GARLIC WATER AND SPRAY AROUND THE LOFT IN CORNERS ETC,
pouw22 Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 I have a similar problem with moths/midges, a friend suggested to use a product sold by boddy and ridewood called ''airdap'' has anyone used this product and if so what were the results? I smokebombed one section and this did the trick for about four weeks but now they are back again,Ihave a lot of trees surrounding the loft does this attract them as i never suffered at my previous location where it was open all around the lofts ??.
jimmy white Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 when birds are out try a skoosh of ordinary household fly spray, youll see the moths comming out of every crook and cranny
pouw22 Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Thanks Jimmy i will give the fly spray a try , i think airdap is a spray so probably similar product only much more expensive.
Guest Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Noticed the odd moth or two in one or two nest boxes, but nothing approaching infestation levels. Wondered what was attracting them, what they are feeding on and if they can harm the birds? Midges favourite hover spots are in the still-air under trees and eaves and on the lee side of buildings. Slightest breeze will disperse them. Ardap is an engineered pyrethroid insecticide, very powerful and poisonous, especially so for fish. Saw B&R advert for it at around £13. I'm sure there are cheaper and safer alternatives. Basically don't like any aerosol spray in the loft, birds after all are one huge air-sac.
THE FIFER Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 yes moths will take bits out the birds flights, u often see it in birds which have been living out for a while,
Guest speckled Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 :o Agree with chatrace about the moth balls i do the same thing ;D ;D ;D (Avon) ;D ;D ;D as we all no moth like dark palces like the cracks in thew wood all the time ya scrap ya deserb the little blitters,my solution would be to paint the loft once with an water based paint which yas can add if ya like a little duramitex to the paint.my thought as ive painted loft yes a few moth do get in but a good blast with the blow torch once a week in the loft will solve the probe.just a thought Speck>
THE FIFER Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 GOOD IDEA BY JIMMY RE. THE HOUSEHOLD FLY SPRAY I USE IT OFTEN.
sapper756 Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 MAYBE YOU SHOULD REFRAIN FROM OPENING YOUR WALLET IN THE LOFT! ;D ;D ;D ;D
jimmy white Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 the pigeon spray contains pyr,,,,, same as household spray again engineered to make tetramethron, but household is cheaper, birds dont like either, but ok after a few minutes, when the birds have been out,
