Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 After some excellent advice a while back, I now add them both to the water at the same time and I have found it makes absolutely no difference as to whether they were added seperately or not, another great advantage is that you are using less days in the week by adding them at the same time rather than on seperate days .No doubt somebody will say they should not be added together but I am happy doing it so works well for me and I know others who do it, but everybody has their own theories but I am still more than happy to take advice and try it.Use it either 2 or 3 days consecutively now depending on what else is being given to the birds.
Guest Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Only posts I've seen on the forum on 'mixing' concerned mixing vinegar and baking soda or bicarbonate of soda in the drinker at the same time - it causes a violent chemical reaction.

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Cor that must stink tae high heaven, when you first started using that mixture, did your birds drink it right away or were they wary about it? first time i tried it i fed the birds and gave them nothing to drink for an hour and then put it down and they drank some and after the first time they drank it readily

bewted Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 can garlic & vinegar be given when birds are feeding young? yes as done it with mine and no problems, think they look better !!!!
speedbird Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 cool ive used them both before but wonderd when rearing will give it em 2m thankyou
bewted Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 should be powder milk as for babies!!!! sorry !!!!
Guest IB Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Must admit to withdrawing all 'additives' like vinegar and garlic when I have youngsters in the nest. Breeders, G10s, Hormoform, minerals, grits, and plain fresh water, 2/3 times a day. Also struck me that powdered babies milk isn't 'natural' its man-made and judging from 'breast is best' campaign is a poor substitute for the real thing, which amongst others contains the antibodies the baby's immune system needs. Maybe another reason for todays 'less-hardy' population?
THE FIFER Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 never mix baking soda and vinegar together, try it get a cup put some baking soda in it then ad vinegar, and see
Guest IB Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 never mix baking soda and vinegar together, try it get a cup put som baing soda in it then ad vinegar, and see Hadn't realised garlic was an alkaloyde until recently. So mixing garlic with a vinegar is the same as mixing soda and vinegar - mix an alkiline with an acid and there will be a chemical reaction, but can't say what the outcome is.

DOVEScot Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 if your rearing ybs,try baby milk !!! Can you add it to the food in powder form, or is it best to make it into a solution. or does it not matter?
Lennut Tar Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Must admit to withdrawing all 'additives' like vinegar and garlic when I have youngsters in the nest. Maybe another reason for todays 'less-hardy' population? Of course it's not natural !!!!!!! ;) I've attempted in the past ;D ;D ;D to find a supplier of the real thing for the birds :D but I for some reason ???? struck trouble :). One could say :X :X :X. So I, along with many others in this sport etc, decided to use the next best thing on offer (baby milk powder) Which when you look at it, has many different vitamins & minerals in it's content, which can only help the birds (Could be wrong thou). Now!!!!!!!. What I do is, I mix 50% baby milk powder & 50% milk powder together & give it to the birds every 2nd day. Especially in the breeding season etc. You may like to try it one day ???????. You could be surprized at the babies you could breed. Now!!!!!!!! "Re Purists" on the other topic on garlic here etc. You may be correct in what you say & believe, & I do not have a problem with your thoughts what so ever. That's what this great site is all about, one could say. But what I will say is !!!!!!!. I have found on the internet etc, if one does enough surfing around, you will find someone who will say. Black is blue or the sun rises in the west & sets in the east, as an example. It's all a matter of interpretation for what I see. Also, what I will say is !!!!!!! I have not been to a Vet in nearly 10 years now, or bought medication etc on the internet & I'm quite happy with the system (right or wrong) I have in place for the birds, & will continue on down the path that I've chosen to travel. Thou I'm quickly coming to the end of it ;D ;D ;D "Unfortunately". Enjoy.
