Tony C Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 First of all thanks for posting this peter.j This is no cure just an expensive way of clearing a pigeons crop. The fasting and feeding light and more importantly the resting of the pigeons for a week or so has been covered numerous times on other threads, this is all that’s required. The holding of corn is only one symptom of this virus, don’t get fooled into thinking once they're eating and digesting proper they're cured...they're not. Treat them like you would treat yourself suffering from a bout of flu, the shits & vomiting goes but you ache like **** for days after.... rest is all important.

Guest IB Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 Have to agree with most comments. Those that have forked out £35 will feel cheated. No expert but I believe young bird sickness is much more complicated. Think change to light diet, reduced ration & rest are most important, these are usually included in most peoples advice on this forum, advice always offered free. And if you do stumble upon a remedy, you won't make your fortune advertising in BHW ;D sell it on to one of the pigeon pharmaceutical companies, that way we all stand to benefit from your knowledge, and for a lot less than £35 a whack, ingredients not included :-/ that must be worse than 'batteries not included' .
Guest Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 As much as I think the £35 is a rip off, and more fool the person who fell for it they actually never wasted their money. Through my families business I've been in the health food industry most of my life and charcoal as a binding agent for all sorts of toxins and bacterium is one of the best treatment agents available barring none so the method in the madness of the so called three steps plan actually COULD work. Note I said COULD not WOULD because there is no guarantee the bacterium responsible for YBs is not guaranteed to bind to the charcoal. Making the bird sick as well is a good thing because it gets rid of the superficial muck which would clog the charcoal before it even got to the intestine where the harmful bacteria exist. The author of this treatment has missed several serious points and if you follow his method it could actually kill your young birds so don't under any circumstances follow it. JMHO
OLDYELLOW Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 charcoal is not a binding substance more of a natural absorber , they use charcoal when pumping human stomachs out after an overdose . For yb sickness i use garden lime , cinemon and root ginger and 4 carrots and garlic and keep topping up for 7 days and no feeding for first 24 hours then feeding light with natural yoghurt and brewers yeast and building up gradualy to heavier corn to get the weight back on the birds , clay pickstones also quite valuable during these times and when birds may have been fielding
Guest Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Read my post Mark, I said it was a binding agent which is exactly what it is and has been used for over the years, it is far more effective than ANY other treatment of toxins on the planet barring none. I respect the fact you have your own ideas on how to cure YBs, so won't even comment on it either for or against.
