hi can you use bicarbonate of soda and garlic at the same time in the drinker i know that bicarbonate of soda and cider vinegar is a no no

i cant see why not its only cos of the gas given off when cider and bicarb are mixed

hi the reason i want to is so i can keep them on the garlic most of the week and use the soda to  prevent canker

Thanks. I have never used bicarbonate of soda in the drinkers unless to clean them but never to prevent canker, I can safely say we have never had any problems with canker. I only use cider vinegar, garlic, honey, orego stym, devils claw, elder berry, nettle tea in my drinkers. I do use BS for a lot of uses around the house, cleaning drains etc  :-/

Interesting combination let us know how you get on.

I think Garlic solution may be acidic but whether or not it is acidic enough to react with the Bicarb. I could not be sure.

hi how i use garlic is to put 3 cloves in the drinker and leave them there so was just going to use the soda once a week but i useally use the garlic 7 days

I have just asked the same on another post, how much bicarb do you use per litre of water?

Tried to find out a while back if garlic was acid or alkaline. I know that the antimicrobial properties are said to be present in 'alkaloids' but some are acid, others are alkaline. Found this website which gives a listing of acid and alkaline foods, garlic is alkaline. So maybes OK with bicarbonate, also alkaline, not such a good idea with cider vinegar, an acid?

hi there i just get a bulb and peel 3 cloves and add them to the drinker i do not crush just peel cut the top and bottom of the clove just like peeling an onion

just to add i leave in the drinker until they blow (go soft ) then i replace with fresh
