ally mac Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Is there any reason why we shouldnt give the birds the water from boiled potatoes, carrots, broccoli. I was draining them when putting the dinner out and poured it into a empty milk carton to put into their drinking water tomorrow.
Guest j.bamling Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 i wouldnt have thought so I know Patrick Bros used to use a brew of vegtables
THE FIFER Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 watch it doesnt give them soft droppings,
Tony C Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Cant see it would hurt none unless you add salt in the cooking process.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 i knew a fancier that did this and swore by it however as we all know any goodness or vitamin benifit would be gone in the boiling process
demolition man Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 all the goodness will be in it, drink it myself, never done me no harm
Guest Owen Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 I use carrot/onion juice from time to time. I put it on the feed.

ally mac Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 Thanks for the replies chaps, keep them coming. It just seems to me that if it is a benefit it is so easy just to put it by at night for the next day, not many nights go by without some sort of water from veg going down the sink.
Guest stb- Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 ALLY AFTER BOILED NOT MUCH VITS LEFT IM AFRAID, YOU WILL BE LEFT WITH SOFT DROPPING AND SMELLY DRINKER :)
Guest Owen Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 I like to use the juicer because the water soluable vits are spoiled by cooking. And "C" is an important vit for pigeons. That is why I like to use fresh vegitable juice. I intend to use Blackcurrent and Elderberry in due course. At the moment I am not sure how I can preserve them.

holmsidelofts Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Ice cubes Owen? yeah thats what we used to do with elderberries, you can buy the ice cube bags that make about 10-15 ice cubes per back, fill then up with elderberry juice, freeze them the break them off when needed and put them in the water.
ally mac Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 I have heard of this being done. Frank does it with elderberry, pour it into the ice cube bags. Al.
