Larry Lucas Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 will get one, oh when doing the throat sawb do you rub the cotton bud on the slide or just squeze the fluid onto it 1. Put a few drops of .5 saline solution on the cotton swab. 2. Roll it around a little in the bird's mouth and throat. 3. Hold the swab stick sideways between your thumb and forefinger and roll it slowly while you put fresh saline solution drop by drop on the swab using a pipette or medicine dropper. 4. When the swab is saturated and ready to drip, stop adding solution. 5. Touch the swab to a slide and then cover with a slip cover. If there are tricho organisms, you will see them clearly.

Guest dogeon Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 hi ive been serching the net for over a week to try and find out how to cultivate samples, does anyone on here know how to cultivate samples to check for selmonella, para's and e-coli and the likes or where i can get information on how to learn
ohiogsp Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 i put the poop in a specimin cup and add distilled water then mix i put some into the pipette and onto the slide the put the cover plate on Ok, you can't just use distilled water you need a float solution. These can be home made or bought cheap but you will need a barometer to make your own. You have to measure the specific gravity with a barometer this is what makes the oocyts float because it is density. You should also measure the fecal sample and the amount of float solution you have because you will be checking it to a standard of count per field of view. The float will take 20 minutes. As was said you have alot of air bubbles. I don't see any cocci in your first pics, oocyts are dark in the middle unlike a air bubble they are clear in the middle. The thing in your other pics is a worm egg and I am not sure if it is a Ceacal worm or a Roundworm egg. If you have access to a barometer I will post how to make a float for you.
