One of our runts has a drooping wing, apart from the vet is there anyone help, doesn't appear to be broken but maybe. Taped it up for tonight, will take to vet tommorow if no one can help

If you can find no evidence of it having taken a knock I would suspect Paratyphoid. Isolate it, spray your loft out, and get it tested. Better to be safe than sorry.

yes i would agree with that ,,maybe a simple knock ,, but better making sure as paratyphoid ,salmonella can cause unknown probs for years to come, vet will take blood test and droppings test ,, hope it gets the all clear  :) [often  similar symptoms to paramyxo]

I hope not but looks more like an injury, I have isolated her anyway away from the loft to keep her quiet, taped it up, checked this morning and the shoulder is definitely swollen

Hi there

Just move some of the feather around the swallon area?

if it is black it has been brusied

if yellow or feels like jelly then Paratyphone. Then the whole loft needs to be treated overwise you will see other birds go down with the same illness.

the illness is curable, but is expensive and takes time?

I hope this helps.

if its around the joints im guessing paratyphoid, id get a droppings test for the traces of samonella and e.coli, think these ones can work out quiet expensive.

a knock or bang.........dehydration..........heat exhaustion will cause wings to drop...

I hope its not the big P......but its better to edge on the side of caution and get  checked out properly........

I would take all teh advise above as 'sound'....

everything  turns out ok

Reminds me of a strange one I had a few years back, thought it was a knock - wing drooped and tips trailed on floor, couldn't fly - but turned out after visit to the vet that the bird had an infection in her left shoulder joint.

Wasn't paratyphoid - salmonella are rod shaped bacteria, this one was 'coccus, round shaped, tho which family couldn't tell, as the lab couldn't culture it.

Took 5ml of yellow gunge out of the joint in 1st aspiration, 2ml on the 2nd. Yellow is right colour for joint fluid, but it should be clear and a light oil consistency.

X-Ray showed extensive damage [rough pitted surface, should be smooth] to the head of the humerus, long bone of the wing, in the joint, something attacked the bone, tho the bird's own immune system attacked and killed the 'something', but not before damage was done..

Visit to vet advisable, at least you will know what you've got, and what you haven't.  :)
