nutverlal Posted April 16, 2007 Report Posted April 16, 2007 Hi there Check the eyes, if watery then you need antibotics as it will be cold eye illness. Which will lead to respoary then do death. The vet prescribes brytril. But tablets are avaliable that do a better job. Thanks

Then check it's perch place and you will be looking for a little hole, or a knot that has fallen out. It is most likely getting a draught in the eye... from just the one side.
Roland Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 Yep and a cold tea bag will also be an asset mucker.
snowy Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 can one eyed cold kill a pigeon, is it the same as a parrots one eyed cold? whats the best treatment??
Guest Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 thanks all for yr tips..! i think its been on a fighting spree .... its deffnatly got water round the eye lids.. You should be able to tell from the birds eye cere and maybe its wattle if its been fighting, signs of blood or signs of a nip, even a tiny fleck of white missing ..
bewted Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 if it has bubbles on the bottom eylid its one eyed cold , without antibiotics , try and put a clean spit,, in the eye [ a spit from a non smoker and non drinker] this spit contains a kind of antibiotic that can cure it ,,,optrex , cold tea bag , will help best advice you can get jimmy,i do it to my rabbits when have problem with eyes,i tell others that and they think i am daft, but, when ithey try,it works or them,,,,,,,,,,,no vets bills or pills to worry about either,,,,,, ted
snowy Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 its just that a friend of mine has an african grey & he asked me the question
jimmy white Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 can one eyed cold kill a pigeon, is it the same as a parrots one eyed cold? whats the best treatment?? it is usually a respiratory problem which could lead to blindness ,,, but could also lead to a more serious ornithosis, then with secondary infection ,, etc, but can be treated easily to begin with ,,, I'm not sure if this could be the same in parrots [i do know that African Grey's are very good at masking over any disease]
jimmy white Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 is there bubbles in the water in the eye if so could be one eye col;d, needs treatment, has it been in a fight, this is the tell tale sign ,,bubbles on the bottom eyelid ,,,but other than that , could have damaged its eye or even something in it [although unusual , as a pigeon has a third eyelid that protects it ,,,acts like a windscreen wiper ] as for a parrot , i couldnt advice [even though i have one ] vets the best for that one
