pjc Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 No treatment, if still showing signs now then unlikely to recover. Get all the others vacinated though! Phil
carlsberg Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 inject for paramyxovirus using either columbovac or nobivac
Ed Bourque Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 sounds like you have Paramyxovirus you be able to help this bird but you need to get some PMV vaccine. you can get it from these sites. http://www.siegelpigeons.com/catalog-pmv.html http://www.jedds.com/Products.asp?MainCategoryID=70&SubCategoryID=593 http://www.foyspigeonsupplies.com/catalog/501.html
ChrisMaidment08 Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 probly to late to vax how are their droppings
pjc Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 there is no treatment, some birds do recover from it but most don't.
Guest amar Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 the dropping are fine the bird was ok when i let them out in the morning i only noticed it when they came back in about an hour ago
DOVEScot Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 hi there can any 1 help me plz i started keeping pigeons bout a month ago afta a week or so my pigeons started to die,i treated them with baytrill and everything was ok,but today 1 of my pigeons cant keep its head up properly as if he has no control over it can any1 plz help me by telling me wot to give to the bird to make him beta If it looks like this it has an inflamation of the nervour sytem in the brain caused by a number of ailments, the pigeon that has gone this far is beyond treatment, did you get them tested or did you just treat with baytril. The one that has gone like this was probably too far gone or did not respond to the baytril, once the baytril was finished you should have had them tested again, baytril is just a broad spectrum antibiotic and may not cover the ailment you have Possible ailments include paramyxo, salmonella or meningitis, best to get checked by a vet preferably an avian one as it may spread thoughout your loft if not treated properly
Tony C Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 http://www.chevita.com/en/pigeons/treatment-plan/specificinfections-paramyxovirosis.php
Guest amar Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 i was told by the vet to treat all the birds with baytrill so they dont catch any infections is there any thing i can add in there water to stop them getting ill
DOVEScot Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 i was told by the vet to treat all the birds with baytrill so they dont catch any infections is there any thing i can add in there water to stop them getting ill Did he test them, as baytril is an antibiotic to treat sick birds not just given to keep them healthy :-/
pjc Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Vets know sh** about pigeons and Baytrill is there default cure all!!! Probably done more harm than good! Phil
Guest amar Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 no the vet did not check them just told me to add 5 ml to there drinking water 1s a week
OLDYELLOW Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 they clearly have paramixo virus they need destroying , no good injecting them now as they already have it and you cant inject un healthy birds . There is no cure for paramixovirus just a preventative via injection , its too late for your birds , cull disinfect loft and start again , and get birds injected asap when young
DOVEScot Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 no the vet did not check them just told me to add 5 ml to there drinking water 1s a week Tell him that the treatment did not work and you want a test done, either a post mortem or a droppings test, he sounds like a chancer to me just treating blind and hope it works, shocking!!!
OLDYELLOW Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 disinfecting a loft with infected birds is useless unless the birds are culled
pjc Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 firstly the vet has treated blind and should be struck off, clearly not knowing what it is and probably not prescribing any aftercare! Phil
Guest amar Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 is there anything i can give the rest of the birds in there drinking water to prevent the other birds getting ill
Guest chrisss Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 if the other guys are right its too late mate the only solution is a restart
