One of our birds has a lump on the wing , as you can see it is quite red and swollen, but I have read that joint problems could be linked to other ailments, to me it just looks like bruising and swelling but I thought I would check, the bird seems really healthy otherwise :-/

Judging by its ouside primaries, it must be drooping its wing.  If its the sort of lump I think it is, It will turn darker and drop off within 2- 3 weeks. They nomally occur on joints, but not always. When it grows bigger, it can be removed by tying twine at its lowest part.

I might be barking up the wrong tree but is swollen joints not one of the signs of paratyphoid?

I may be wrong!

Yes, that is why I asked but this is is an isolated joint and it is very deep red like a blood vessel has burst, going with the blood boil, I have isolated the bird and Rembrant is going to have a look at it tomorrow :-/

Thanks to Rembrant2coo and his neighbour for checking the bird out, glad to say it is nothing sinister, just a badly bruised joint, not a blood boil as it is all round the joint :) :) :)

you are wrong ,and its just as if it has smacked into a window or a car window could even been knocked down by a hawk but nothing to serious that some T.L.C  will cure

Has anyone considered a spiderbite ??? you said initially it looked like a vampire bite this is acting like a spiderbite to me we have brown recluse spiders here and this is acting just like that although the area dosent fall off it rots away protien lumps are small this is way to big to be a protien lump and protien lumps dont ulcerate like this thing looks like its doing

Just a thought

another thing a protien lump wouldnt go clear through wing like this they stay near skin and dont do damage to surrounding tissue I doubt this is paratyphoid either  this is definatly something specific to this condition have you checked for a splinter or shard of wire or something in the wing ???
