Guest bigda Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 came back from my two weeks away on holiday today on checking my darkness young birds some flights seem to have not grown to well like a webbing on the feather what caused it ??? holding it up to the light you can see right through the feather not all my birds are like this are these birds no use next year for racing if they have not moulted properly did you give your birds a jag for ecolli by any chance, sal,vac or something like that
Tony C Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 how many pigeons are showing these frets bart
Guest bigda Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 no bigda no jag only asking did you give your birds disinfections in water as this is knowing to affect the quills if giving to often something like vircon -s , the quills some time look thin and opaque if you give them to much of that type of stuff it might be a bit late now but try giving them wheat germ oil once a week very lightly on the corn give them a hand bath every other day a hot one, and seed give them the kids liquid vits once a week cant remember the name just now its in a small bottle, but every day just monitor to see if the feathers strengthen up the vits are the type you put on the kids tongue but only give once a week 3 drops to 2lb of grub
terry mccarthy Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 put some redcell on food with a drop of abidec vits via the mouth 1 drop maybe a bit late now this sometimes happens if birds have had a bit of illness
Guest IB Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Once the feather is formed, there is no recovery. Only stuff I've come accross that causes this fading is (some) worm treatments and viral attack. I do not know how many flights are affected in each bird, only a couple of weeks holiday so its likely to be a maximum of 1 in each wing; would suggest that after 10th is cast & regrown, select worst flight(s) and pull them. Was given this advice for a natural youngster last year, badly-fretted primary which would probably have broken off as a yearling, pulled it after 10th almost fully grown, came back in no problem.
terry mccarthy Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 i would of said probally at sometime a illness its weird how it effects them
