Guest IB Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 Hi ive got a couple of birds that seem Lifeless they are eating ok and drinking but just seem to sit on the floor with there heads in does anyone know whats wrong with them and what i can do to pirk them up. Less lively than normal perhaps rather than lying lifeless on the floor? If they perk up on approaching them, wouldn't be too worried, weather fewer daylight hours and moult could all be factors causing birds to be less active. Think eating & drinking OK is also a good sign ... but pop them in a box each, and watch them for a couple of days, with cider vinegar in their water too , just to be sure.
kirky Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 i have two young hens that look the same but thay are in heavy moult, some dont cope with the moult & show signs of stress.
Guest scoobybob Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 At a rough guess I would say these birds were in the bunch you sold me...50% of your birds died within two weeks I also lost all my 08 birds (14) and 50% of my stock birds (6)...Big expencive mistake not quarenteening the birds.

If the birds are not vaccinated against it never discount Paramixo. They don't always show the twisted neck symptom now.

Guest Owen Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Hi don't guess, because no-one can possibly know without the proper tests. Start with a droppings test and a throat swab test. If you do not sort it out quickly these birds will be ruined. Besides, a couple of sick birds are often the first signs of problems that will affect all your birds. It is worth noting that unless the birds are on top form they will not be any good for racing or breeding. If you act quickly, you have got a chance to put things right before they go too far.

Sorry to say you read it right...First year of pigeon keeping so I'm no expert. Bought the birds and next day I already had a dead one in the loft. Most the birds died within 7 days the rest I put down as they all were suffering. Only 6 old stock stayed healthy and I kept them. This was in November these birds I kept now have young and seem to be OK. Wish I saw this post before I purchased the birds...
