pjc Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 here we go again, stop guessing and get them tested!
Guest strapper Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 i agree with phil get them tested at least it puts your mind to rest..
joe61 Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 I suspect nothing wrong with the birds, hows that for a diagnosis. your panicing i think over nothing, ask yourself some questions, how many birds in loft? is the grain or feed getting damp or soiled somehow? have you given them salt? what about grit? are minerals in loft getting damp? are you rationing them? what time of day do you feed them? have you given them peanuts or any other seed or feed ? what you putting in the water? call my son on 07989 746150 he will get it straight for you. other than that, plain feed and water as much as they want and keep them locked in loft for 3 days all will then be fine. oh happy days
Wiley Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 just a little tip, about 5 days before you wean your young birds, put your birds on cider vinegar, and carry this on for around 10 days after weaning, its a known fact after weaning ybs this causes young birds to become stressed and prone to ailments, but the cidervinegar casues an acidic environment which many ailments do not like to be in!
jimmy white Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 here we go again, stop guessing and get them tested! my above post was meant in this way,, any really good fancier near him,, seeing all, [that we cant see] , would either see for himself, if theres anything obvious reasons,[which there could well be,as yb,s will pick at anything, in gutters etc] ,, or advise a vet, if need be
Peckedhen Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Don't move your next lot of YBs over till you have sorted this out. It won't harm them to stay with the parents longer - if they are still in the nest boxes and you have several, you can put them all together on the loft floor, (I usually put easy bed down for mine). They will still get fed but watch the parents feed and soon start pecking themselves. 21 days sounds early to me for weaning but, there again, I'm probably too soft and leave them longer than I need. I like them fully feathered under the wings before I move them.

This sounds good but for me cocci worms kanker alternate weeks cider vinegar and honey in the water yogurt on the corn. Treat the lot don't seperate. Works for me. As for changing the food healthy birds can live on almost any thing.

As for changing the food healthy birds can live on almost any thing. maybe didnt make myself clear, i didnt say i never treat my young birds, just a tip so when you wean the young birds its a stressfull time for them, and every pigeon fancier knows a stressed pigeon is a prone pigeon to illness, hense the reason why i do this as the ailments dont like an acidic environment, hope may have cleared the tip up a bit :-/
OLDYELLOW Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 well as im going to bed if there flying on this it may niot be meeting there dietry neededs and they may need to be moved on to a yb mix such as Junior 'o' ill have alook at thread tomorrow [/quot didnt think u sleep ;D ;D ;D lol i do sleep now and again thought deeply at hibernating fer winter ;D ;D ;D ;D
OLDYELLOW Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 well the wet dropping can be a number of thing from safflower in the seeds been off to the stress of been out of the comfort zone of the loft or indeed ailling , they could be eating the smaller seeds and filling themselves with water so they feel full but as there now flying a little they may need a more nutrianal feed , beding on the floor with ybs helps them from not been in contact with there own droppings , it could well be something or nothing so get them tested perhaps mix a small amount of grit in there feed may help the cider vinegar is a good idea as will stablise there gut and be hostile to bacterrial infections naturaline is good for this as well and some vitamins wouldnt go a miss either.

peterpau Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 hi, greenhills, i see your fairly new to the fancy, i can understand your frustration at this,, its very difficult to diagnose any ailment over the internet, maybe if theres a good knowledgable fancier near you, who can see your whole set up, feeding etc etc he might be able to help/advice better,,,, but on the info you have supplied ,and in my opinion,i would keep them in, for, say a week, and treat for cocci,,keeping the loft clean each day , with maybe some harkers loft treatment , brushed on floor and perches [am i right in saying, that the yb,s still to be weaned,s droppings are ok] And here is some more sound advise from another good contributer
Guest gladdo Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 HOW ARE THE YOUNGSTERS IN THEMSELVES ... TAKE YOUR DRINKER OUT AND WHEN YOU PUT IT BACK IN MONITOR WHAT THEY ARE DRINKING FOR STARTERS .....I HOPE THIS CLEARS UP REAL SOON MATE ...MIKEY
Guest Owen Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 I would bet you have got cocci and maybe caker as well. Why don't you have the droppings tested? It is important to sort this out now because they could have a setback and be useless racing later.
