Guest Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 some treatments for canker only treat for 1 type of canker!! a 5 day course wit rodinadizole (i cant spell) or flagil liquid should cure it
Guest wattle Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 young bird sickness does it not only affect youngbirds, all my stock birds have it aswell.
Guest Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 em i think young bird sickness is a virus and i just think it is nicknamed young bird sickness, tho the symptoms shoulnt be severe in old birds!! thats why i would treat for canker or get your droppings teasted!
boxer Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 young bird sickness does it not only affect youngbirds, all my stock birds have it aswell. IT WILL GO THROUGH THEM ALL M8 IT ATTACKS THERE AMUNE SYSTEMS OR SOMETHING. SOME WILL COME THROUGH IT OTHERS MIGHT GO STUPID JUST KEEP AN EYE ON THEM AND GET TO THE VETS STRAIGHT AWAY
Guest Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 if its yb sickness! your suppose to treat against cocci, canker etc as it lets all these diseases in
jimmy white Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 what cure is there for paramyxo virus unfortunately any pigeon that has recovered from paramyxio virus, is normally left with serious defects.. better with prevention,, vaccination with nobilis or any other paramyxio vaccine, should provide immunity it is a must, to see an avian vet
Tony C Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 some treatments for canker only treat for 1 type of canker!! a 5 day course wit rodinadizole (i cant spell) or flagil liquid should cure it The problem treating willy nilly is that you could compound the problem. If you mix some medicine or other in the drinker and they're drinking over the amount than they should you'll end up overdosing them.
Guest Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Most viruses have some colour to droppings, or other signs, even death with the serious ones. I had paramyxo in loft years back, yes the floor was like a swimming pool, but there was also very obvious signs, but it does spread very quick. Vaccinated birds still had the wet droppings, but got no other signs. Depends if there any other signs, but apart from medicating (something like tremoxin) i would withhold all food and water for 24 hours then feed 100% tic beans then place water back in and remove it when they all drank. BTW i was told LPW had a delay of 6 weeks backlog for orders, maybe this the reason why???
Guest Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Wet canker? never heard of it. The birds have either paramyxo virus, or the first stages of yb sickness. Good Luck, you'll need it! Surprised by that Vic, thought you knew a bit! ;D Could always try the torch yourself!!

Guest Davy Fleming Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Obviously not sure what it is but know one thing without even thinking about it it certainly isn't canker and certainly not young bird sickness so don't waste time and money on treating them for that. As the lad earlier said you really need some urgent advice from a vet or someone who knows about testing . Where do you come from ?
jimmy white Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 i got 12 jan ardens from louella ten days ago, two days after the were squirting clear water out of them, thought it would clear with probiotics, now the whole loft has it,every single bird young and old 70 birds down with it, even young in nests.all still eating and drinking alot of water. water everywhere never seen anything like it in 30 years of pigeon keeping. ps, before i got the louella birds everything was perfect. :-/ no good in guessing,, best see avian vet asap. wet canker is just a name weve given for bowel canker
Guest strapper Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 i would suggest a vet asap...but my thoughts on this would be you have either one of these 3 problems... salmonella.......e coli........or para. if you have any..fural. this stays in the stomach for a while but doesnt enter the blood stream where some infection could be..the best choice would be baytril it doesnt stay in the gut as long as fural but does reach more area,s of infection then fural...baytril should only be used as an option when all else fails. another medication thats useful is belgamco. try this site...see if your wet droppings are like this.. http://www.chevita.com/en/pigeons/treatment-plan/specificinfections-paramyxovirosis.php

As the lad earlier said you really need some urgent advice from a vet or someone who knows about testing . Where do you come from ? Theres only two illnesses i've seen that have clear wattery droppings, Para being one, canker being the other, its not always a yellowy deposit, any fancier thinking that is wrongly mistaken! I don't give them the names, leave that to the medical specialists, but there is a "wet" canker and is also confused with resp problems, as its mainly in the throat and nasal areas.
Guest wattle Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 can pigeons that are injecked for paramyxo virus pass the desease to pigeons that where not injected for the desease.
Guest Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 can pigeons that are injecked for paramyxo virus pass the desease to pigeons that where not injected for the desease. Mine injected ones still showed minor symptoms (wet droppings) and as your not supposed to mix newly vacc'd birds with non vacc'd birds i'd say yes.
NW USA Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 You should quarintine new arrivals, time to talk to a vet. Don't use a shotgun approach for treatment.
sandra p Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 if it was paramax old birds should not be infected they have resistance and infection would take weeks not days e coli or other similair bacterial
Guest wattle Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 thats the problem then, i just seen on the sheet of paper from louella thet all the birds where injected and my are not injected yet, fu-k.
Guest Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 if it was paramax old birds should not be infected they have resistance and infection would take weeks not days e coli or other similair bacterial sandra i had it in mine all my racers were vacc'd but they still showed symptoms, my stock were'nt vacc'd but they all showed symptoms too, one fatally. I'd say it was 36/48 hours from when i noticed the first one (and removed it) til i had symptons in ALL lofts.
