this subject has been discussed before , first check is can the cock create this bald patch whilst feeding?? ie rubbing chest while eating from a pot or trough ??                      andy.

i noticed it with his last round of latebreds,he seemed to rub his chest on the nest bowl, when sitting.they are soild plastic,i will throw them if thats the problem, and go back to dandy nests.it looks worst because of the moult. maybe that could be the problem.thanks for your help NWN.

it will be mite if the shaft of the feather is cut, feeders will pull them out,not cut them, as bigda said pull them out and dab parafin on area.

It my walk backwards for a bit   ;D ;D ;D

But it does work ;)

Think you would need to check the bald patch to identify what you have. Moult will confuse things, my OBs are dropping curtains of feathers from chest area, there are some bare patches, so nothing wrong in that.

If it is bare skin, and the whole feather is out, and the base of the feather has a waxy blob on it, then it's depluming mite (2 mites acting together, Frank Harper). If the area is stubbly, with broken shaft still there, then its either rubbing against a sharp surface (drinker, feeder) or a combination of rubbing and quill mite, which live inside the hollow quill, weaken it and the rubbing breaks the top part off.

Ivermectin drops should clear mites.
