One swollen leg

Any ideas, in good health and condition cock bird has one swollen leg. It is the leg that had the life ring on, the ring has previously been removed because of swollen leg before the bird came to us.

 

Also any ideas on how to take the swelling down?

 

I can not supply any photos as the bird is not at my loft.

Is the leg VERY red?  Could be cellulitus, cool blood supply with ice but not direct, use bag of peas or something, that will take swelling down, look for any wounds as well could be a splinter that is causing it.

All depending on how long his ring was cut off you could try holding it under the cold tap and then hot tap few times a day.Same as you would do to bring a swelling down yourself. But if it was left to long before the ring was cut off it may always appear swollen.

Good advice Alun, swelling can calcify and become hard for the rest of the birds life, never thought of putting that down.  Hope the birds okay and he gets it sorted.

The ring was cut off a long time ago.

It may have have just knocked it.

 

Just to explain i have not seen the bird's leg myself sinse it has swollen as it's at my Dads loft and he just asked me to ask for ideas to take down the swelling and wondered if they my be a conection as the ring had been cut off before.
