pigeonpete Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 pjc mentioned giving his birds a bath, in the week, and i was told not to bath them in the week? what are other peoples thought and views on this and any reasoning why. thanks.
Guest puresoontjen Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Quoted from pjc interesting Pete, i've found if they've had a hard week, training etc in the run up to a race they enjoy a nice relaxing couple of hours off and a bath. After the bath they prean etc and put there feathers back in good order for the race. What do others do? Maybe a new thread? Some still handbath on a friday morning to cool the blood! i do the same bath every second week on thursday if thay have a hard race then thay get abath the day after.
Ronnie Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 bath is out all day for the youngbirds and old birds on a sunday they have open hole for two hours in the evening with the bath there if they want it.
Guest Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 would also be interesting to say how racing went afterwards ? not saying bathing will make them win ,but if benefits the birds ? andy.

edwards Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 muscles muscles muscles after hard training tosses you need to softhen them back up its vital if a widowhood cock was doing over 200miles racing a bucket of luke warm water and hold him in it and massage him for a minute or so birds sent racing with hard muscles suffer.
Guest stb Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 sometimes o/bs will dive in the bath, other times they wont go near it?? pigeons will bath when they need to more so when it rains. when the weather is very hot and sunny (which is not that often.lol) my birds dont go near bath

just ask me Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 old birds racers 24hrs at least before race
pigeonpete Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 old birds racers 24hrs at least before race could you give us a reason why please? ;-)
just ask me Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 i cant explain fully think i read it written by ad schaerlaekens (spelling terrible) that the oils don't fully replenish for a day or two or so as this keeps the rain from getting deep down in the feathers that the reason
Guest numpty01 Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 if a bird has bath 24 hours before race and encounters rain on way home they do not have the protection from water clogging this results in lack speed and cause.s heaveir bird trying to fly also never give um bath last thing at night
Guest numpty01 Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 clown! Bet they loved you at school :-)tut tut how rude
Guest stb Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 tut tut how rude obviously did not go to school to busy clowning around .lol.
pjc Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 a while ago there was a thread about checking keel colour/skin condition. A reply, i think from Jack Barkel explained why fanciers should not part the feathers to check the keels due to the time it takes for birds to reposition the feathers. Giving a bath on a thursday encourages the birds to preen and gives enough time to replace any lost oil unless you put anything in the water that will dry them out.
