Diamond dave Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 At what point do you guys stop sending your young birds - when they are down to the 2nd last flight or the last flight. I know you dont have to worry about birds that are on the dark but what about all the others? D.D.
cowman Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 if they can fly they go mind you i have lights in loft so birds have 16hrs plus of light from weaning till week before last race helps hold their flights .

peterpau Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 Breed 'em late enough and you wont have any bother either
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 When they have 3 to go i stop same here in most cases, but if they are really bald around the head we don't send them either
Diamond dave Posted August 3, 2009 Author Report Posted August 3, 2009 Thanks guys, The problem is, I tried my hand at the Light system but my timing hasn't been very good and I am not going to "pull flights" as is suggested under this system. Several of my younguns are on their last two flights but they are flying really well, so I dont see why I shouldn't send them but I have heard so many times that people wont send them when they are down to the last two flights but what is the reasoning behind this? D.D.
Guest milkyal Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 Last two flights, but if they look tired when on third last i would stop then.

The birds will fly when moulting the last 3 flights but not well as they will be sore and it will be painful to them to fly for long.
russell1 Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 i was told by a fellow fancier that when a pigeon is down to its fourth or third flight stop it from racing as they start to push the new flight through it is supposed to be like a human having a cronick toothache!! how he knows this i dont know ? i always leave mine at home i dont even train them! he says that because of the gap the air goes straight threw the gap and the bird has to work harder to get home. but as he says i can give you advice but you do what you feel is best! i always follow his advice and since then have done well with my birds
