i only feed peanuts for human consumption as they come in different grades and pet shop nuts are third rate i think they calculate this by the amount of mould on them more pigeon get sick from bad peanuts than anything else its a major cause of samoella so u might need to get something stronger as in a antibiotic have seen this happen lots of times

just on another point with all these bird feeders for wild birds id imagine this don't help them either

The most likely explanation is that your peanuts were contaminated with a mould or fungus, like aspergillosis (spelling). These produce aflatoxins which can attack the major organs.

I'd put the birds on a strong garlic solution, say a 30g bulb, cloves peeled & mashed into 2ltr of drinking water, and provided it remains clean, leave it before the birds for at least 48 hours.

If there is no visible change in that time, then seek advice from a vet.

For info: always feed the birds peanuts meant for human consumption (Redskin peanuts are reckoned the best) the reason for this is that peanuts meant for animal consumption are allowed by law to have a maximum 5% mould contamination; peanuts meant for human consumption must be 0% contaminated. No need to go to health store either, peanuts is peanuts, local supermarket is just as good.

To many or contaminated peanuts can cause a fungal problem, the symptoms of drinking a lot of water and wet droppings is a good sign of a fungal problem, treat with nystan 5ml-4pints for 3 days, make fresh solution each day that should sort it.
