Feeding Young Birds

I would like to know what the youngsters after being weaned require for food. At present I still feeding the breed and wean they were fed in the nest. Should a new mix now be started? And secondly what amount of food should I be feeding the weaned off youngsters? I am just putting in a varied amount each day at present and by the next the feed has all gone - but then the youngsters are not really interested when trying to learn to trap. I have been feeding just once a day about 5 o clock, after letting the birds out first. Any advice welcome.

hi, breed+wean is ok to feed. when you put the feed in, put it down couple of handfuls at a time, when they stop feeding they've had enough. what may be happening with you is they still have feed left the next morning and are eating that so not so hungry to come in when you want that day. when you say they're not interested to learn to trap what do you mean? how do they get back into the loft if they don't trap.

breed and wean is fine for now, but will need lightneing up when you want them to fly, ybs must learn control from the off, if there not comeing in when you want them to cut there feed right down even missing a day if need be, they will soon learn. agood luck with them.

what would be fed after the breed and wean then?

i start mine on econemy mix teaches them to pick up the big seeds also they dont fly too far from loft to start after 10 days they go onto a super young bird racing mix and do well on it but thats what suits my system the thing is ask a question on here and get 20 differant answers lol.

Breed and Wean is ok for the moment. If you can tell us what brands of feed you can get someone may be able to advise you of a better option.

 

Dont leave feed in your lofts for two reason, one is control the other is you'll encourage mice into your lofts, mice=trouble.

like has been said there is no wrong or right answers, every 1 does different, i would personally give them depuritive in the morning and i feed versalle laga yb mix in evening, the depurative stops them feelin to hungry but will make em fly, i wouldnt use depuritive just yet though, as they are still growing and need more nutrients. hopw this helps

too true!! i had to learn the hard way when i started up! paratyhoid! had to kill the lot!

once young start to perch,75%breedig mix,25%barley and feed by hand till they start to leave

barley main feed, quarter once homoform and seed each morning feed.
