tigger Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 would like to enquire of the quality of the pigeon corn of J.A.Swainston and Son "the grain store" in county Durham.
BLACK W F Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 used to be good value dont know what they like now
Guest frank dooman Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 stoped useing it a good few years ago
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Its passable.. but when you have a bag of say swaintsons super widowhood open next to a bag of versele laga super widowhood its worlds apart..
Fair Play Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 They sell various types from different suppliers and also their own brands depends what you are prepared to pay our club buys it and it is constantly ordering and mostly their own brands
Fair Play Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Don't fly widowhood so could't possibly comment :P but what I will say if it wasn't for Swainstons and others like them most of us would have to give up as it would be too expensive
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 You dont have to fly widowhood to use widowhood mix Tam..
dwh Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 its like fair play get most corns we use there own mix (nowt wrong with it) but we prefer versele laga s/widowhood 4 racing but his own is ok and its cheap
Guest tom123 Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 like i said in previous threads you get what you pay for and for the price dont think youll get any better our club got together and had three pallets delivered no complaints apart from one or two broken bags during transport
Fair Play Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 They sell various types from different suppliers and also their own brands depends what you are prepared to pay our club buys it and it is constantly ordering and mostly their own brands
Guest Davy Fleming Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Jonesybhoy is bang on as passable and cheap but in a different league from Versele Laga
Guest Davy Fleming Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Should really have said nothing really wrong with it either though
Guest frank dooman Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Jonesybhoy is bang on as passable and cheap but in a different league from Versele Laga i dont agree davy cheap yes but i dont think any fancier should feed a passable food thats where alot of the problems come from allways get the best available it costs a wee bit more but well worth it in the end but even some of the other big boys are getting worse
Guest bakes Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 me personally wouldnt use anythink other than versel laga ive tried bucktons bramford but dont come close to the quality of corn from versele larga all the best.
Fair Play Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 They only sell Widowhood not Super so that is probably the difference Widowhood £6.00 ex works V/L super widowhood £10.42 ex works both 20kg Plus they brought their prices down where as V/L put theirs up so we pensioners have to cut our cloth to suit ;D ;D
dwh Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 i dont agree davy cheap yes but i dont think any fancier should feed a passable food thats where alot of the problems come from allways get the best available it costs a wee bit more but well worth it in the end but even some of the other big boys are getting worse spot on fd thats why we go onto V/L 4 racing
Guest frank dooman Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 me personally wouldnt use anythink other than versel laga ive tried bucktons bramford but dont come close to the quality of corn from versele larga all the best. up untill this year i would agree 100% bakes but bucktons widow + has just edged ahead more maze but good to mix the two

Guest frank dooman Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 never had no problems with vl frank what i noticed when i was using bucktons all round the corn was very dusty same as when i was using bramford i no vl is alot more money but if its going to be better quality corn im willing to pay that little extra all the best k.baker yes bucktons all round or econemy mix is dusty the same as swainstons but there super-widow and high energy is 100% try mixing it with versa its the best
BLACK W F Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 the problem is not with the corn V L ect sell its the price its a rip off ask gangster the quality corn we seen in belg and at less than 6euros for 25 kils i think you see what i mean
Guest frank dooman Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 the problem is not with the corn V L ect sell its the price its a rip off ask gangster the quality corn we seen in belg and at less than 6euros for 25 kils i think you see what i mean spot on just look at the other thread the difference in prices from wales to scotland when the prices went up for fuel costs as i said at the time they never came back down when the oil prices did, but quality is well worth paying for and that means all year round iam afraid no sence in going through all that we do/pay for the bird to throw it up in the air for a few quid with rubbish food false economy
gangster Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 to be honest ronny van tilburgh in zonderiegn has a hobby shop and the corns top draw it would suit some retailers getting some of his corn in starts like b wfl says at 6.00 euros upwards...at the dublin show the corn store sold out of there show supply quick time...
BLACK W F Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 do agree with you frank but will ask you one thing look at the old big dog tooth maize and plate maize covered with dust but that was maize dust some dont know the difference if i had the time i would buy straights and mix my own
gangster Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 im a big believer in using the best corn...lets be honest you would not feed a race horse on carrots would you..
BLACK W F Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 mick that corn we seen that day was some of the best quality i seen for a lot of years was the econamy not 5 euros for 25 kil bags and price went up from there and all quality it would pay itself to bring 5-10 ton in some one would make a good profit
