josh Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 i fed just a barley and dog tooth mazie all over the moult barley first and the birds would still eat as much mazie as i put out...i am back on the best all round mix for breeding but find no difference in just giving them the barley an mazie...birds wor just the same as durpitive or gerry plus or mixing different grains....i do think to much mazie is very fatting
ch pied Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 SINQUINTINA MAIZE DONT KNOW IF THAT IS THE RIGHT SPELLING WAS USED BY MANY FANCIERS WAY BACK YEARS AGO AND IS NOW AVAILABLE MANY FLIERS SWORE BY THE STUFF COMES FROM ARGENTINA WELL WORTH A TRYcinquatina maize / popcorn maize , was very common in mix's year's ago , also the big flat orange plate maize , they are of little feeding value ie mostly case with little starch content , the only advantage with popcorn maize , It go's through the bird's quick , french / dog tooth is by far the better maize , All the hype about cribb's maize is just clever marketing for round / berry maize that is ment to be dried in a maize crib , when in fact it go's through the drier's like any other maize to reduce the moisture down to 14% then a ( Don ) test is done to evaluate the mycotixin's . Farmer's in europe no longer use cribb's , as they cant' aford to hold on to maize that will take 4-6 month's to dry down for bread use . This practice of cribbing the maize , only happen's on small holding's in europe for self use in bread making . If you see a big field of maize growing when on your travalle's about in the UK ( DON'T TOUCH IT ) as maize growen in the UK will not RIPEN . It is fodder maize , fed as is to cattle , cob an all

wilkins Posted January 13, 2010 Author Report Posted January 13, 2010 so from the post above its more to the sugar and fat with maize that wins out over barley, dari etc but would energy mix sunflower, rape, hemp, peanuts etc added to a light mix at say 10-30% not have the same result as maize this way the birds would not get to fat early season,
